What our customers say

HEP did my new roof recently and did an excellent job. They were very professional and knowledgeable about what my home needed and were efficient in getting the job done. Their price was also very competitive with the 2 other estimates I got. They cleaned up afterwards so you could never tell they were there except for a beautiful new, nonleaking roof. Will definitely use them again in future work at my home. Thank you HEP for making this job so easy to get done!

The service was very fast. We had a technician out to check our furnace and he kindly informed us they no longer make the parts that we would need, which is understandable as the unit was manufactured in 1997. They were able to get a team out the very next day to install a new HVAC unit and furnace, these gentlemen worked extremely hard from daylight to dark finally finishing up around 9 PM. They had everything up and running and we’re so quiet and thorough. I barely knew they were there! We did have an issue with the unit cooling after start up. I called the following morning and had a technician out within a few hours that fixed the issue. Overall, the entire process was extremely easy, fast, and thorough. We have a roofing project to begin next week with this company as well and only expect great things going forward!

The Importance of “Roofing Done Right” in Dunlap

Dunlap’s rolling landscapes, seasonal storms, and dramatic temperature shifts create a demanding environment for any roof. Residents understand that one harsh downpour or a week of scorching sun can expose hidden vulnerabilities in shingles, flashing, or underlayment. That’s why the phrase “roofing done right” carries extra weight here. HEP specializes in delivering precisely that—an integrated roofing solution designed to protect homes in Dunlap year-round.

Dunlap’s Climate Challenges

  • Intense UV exposure during long summer days
  • Heavy rainfall and flash flooding in spring and fall
  • Occasional hail and high winds that lift or crack shingles
  • Rapid temperature swings stressing roof structures
  • Moisture buildup encouraging mold, algae, and rot

Building envelopes in this region have to fight on multiple fronts. A properly installed and maintained roof by HEP becomes the first and most critical line of defense against each of these stressors.

HEP’s Holistic Approach to Roofing

HEP’s “roofing done right” mindset revolves around a simple idea: every component matters. Rather than focusing only on the visible surface, the team accounts for the entire roofing ecosystem.

Comprehensive Site Assessment

Before any hammer swings, HEP technicians perform a detailed site assessment that covers:

  • Structural integrity of decking and trusses
  • Ventilation capacity in attics and soffits
  • Condition of gutters, downspouts, and flashing zones
  • Surrounding vegetation that can drop debris or cause abrasion
  • Drainage patterns on the property that may influence water flow

The findings guide material selection, installation techniques, and any recommended upgrades, ensuring the finished roof is tuned to the specific property rather than a one-size-fits-all template.

Precision Material Selection

Quality begins with the right ingredients. HEP sources roofing materials engineered for longevity in southern Appalachian valleys, including:

  • Architectural asphalt shingles with enhanced granule adhesion
  • Synthetic underlayments that breathe yet resist moisture intrusion
  • Ice and water shield membranes for vulnerable valleys and eaves
  • corrosion-resistant fasteners designed for mixed-humidity environments
  • Ridge vents and intake vents sized for Dunlap’s temperature fluctuations

Each product is vetted to meet or exceed local building codes and manufacturer performance standards. By matching components that work in harmony, HEP avoids the mismatched warranties and premature failures that plague lesser installations.

Skilled Installation Teams

Even premium materials fail if installed improperly. HEP technicians undergo rigorous training in:

  • Nailing patterns and depth calibration for High Wind Zones
  • Flashing techniques around chimneys, skylights, and wall intersections
  • Starter strip placement to prevent wind uplift
  • Balanced ventilation ratios using ridge-to-soffit formulas
  • Proper shingle staggering and alignment for water shedding efficiency

Continuous education keeps crews current with evolving manufacturer guidelines, so every roof meets its stated lifespan—often longer.

Key Elements of HEP’s “Roofing Done Right”

Deck Preparation and Repair

A solid roof begins beneath the surface. HEP inspects sheathing for rot, delamination, or insect damage. Compromised sections are replaced, and the entire deck is fastened securely to rafters, minimizing the chance of uplift during storm gusts. By starting with a sturdy platform, subsequent layers can perform as designed.

Advanced Underlayment Systems

Traditional felt paper used to be the default underlayment, but Dunlap’s moisture profile demands more sophisticated solutions. HEP installs synthetic underlayments with:

  • Higher tear resistance
  • Low water absorption
  • Superior traction for installers (improving safety)
  • Thermal stability that resists warping under summer heat

This sub-surface barrier blocks wind-driven rain while allowing trapped moisture to escape, maintaining a dry deck and preventing mold growth.

Ice and Water Shield in Critical Zones

Although Dunlap sits farther south than ice-dam hotspots, occasional cold snaps can still cause freeze-thaw cycles. Valleys, penetrations, and eaves are fortified with self-sealing ice and water shield membranes. These peel-and-stick layers provide extra leak protection where water volume or ice buildup concentrate stress on the roofing system.

High-Performance Shingles

HEP favors dimensional asphalt shingles engineered for both aesthetics and durability. Key benefits include:

  • Double-layer construction that mimics the depth of wood shakes
  • Enhanced nail-strip zones for superior pull-through resistance
  • UV-reflective granules that curb heat absorption, lowering attic temps
  • Algae-resistant coatings that keep roofs looking new despite humidity

Multiple color profiles allow homeowners to complement brick, siding, or stone facades without sacrificing performance.

Ventilation and Insulation Balance

Roofing efficacy is tied to airflow beneath it. Without balanced intake and exhaust, heat and moisture accumulate, shortening shingle life and encouraging mold in living spaces. HEP’s ventilation strategy includes:

  • Continuous ridge vents that exhaust hot air along the entire peak
  • Soffit or fascia vents that feed cool air upward
  • Optional gable vents on expansive attics for cross-ventilation
  • Proper baffle installation to keep insulation from blocking airflow

By regulating attic temperatures, the system mitigates ice dams in winter and reduces cooling loads in summer.

Flashing and Sealant Expertise

Improper flashing is the hidden culprit behind many leaks. HEP pays meticulous attention to:

  • Chimney step and counter-flashing integrated with mortar joints
  • Skylight curbs wrapped in high-grade metal flashing kits
  • Pipe boots secured with specialty sealants that remain flexible
  • Wall abutments finished with kick-out diverters to redirect rainfall away from siding

Using corrosion-resistant metals and UV-stable sealants, these critical junctions stay watertight year after year.

The HEP Roofing Process From Start to Finish

1. Consultation and Property Analysis

A project manager meets onsite, gathers homeowner priorities, and evaluates existing roofing conditions. Digital photos and measurements ensure transparent planning.

2. Customized Proposal and Scope Outline

A written scope describes material types, ventilation upgrades, decking repairs, and estimated timelines. Homeowners see precisely what will happen on their roof before work begins.

3. Scheduling and Site Preparation

HEP coordinates material deliveries to minimize disruption. Protective tarps and plywood shields safeguard landscaping, siding, and windows during tear-off.

4. Tear-Off and Deck Inspection

Crew members remove existing shingles, felt, and flashings down to bare wood. Any hidden damage is documented and addressed immediately.

5. Installation of Underlayment and Ice Barrier

Synthetic underlayment and ice shield are rolled out in weather-tight sequences, creating a sealed envelope even before shingles appear.

6. Shingle Application and Flashing Integration

Shingles are installed according to manufacturer nailing patterns and local wind-load specs. Flashings are woven seamlessly with each course, ensuring no exposed fasteners.

7. Ventilation and Accessory Installation

Ridge vents, pipe boots, attic fans (if specified), and gutter tie-ins are installed in tandem to maintain system integrity.

8. Final Cleanup and Inspection

Magnetic sweeps collect stray nails, and all debris is hauled away. A supervisor conducts a multi-point inspection to verify workmanship quality.

9. Warranty Registration and Documentation

HEP registers manufacturer warranties and provides homeowners with maintenance guidelines, empowering them to maximize roof longevity.

Advantages of Choosing HEP for Roofing in Dunlap

Local Expertise

Teams live and work in the same climatic zone, giving them firsthand understanding of Dunlap’s weather patterns. This local insight translates into roofing assemblies tailored to the microclimate rather than generic, nationwide templates.

Integrated Home Services Knowledge

HEP’s background across plumbing, electrical, and HVAC disciplines fosters a big-picture understanding of building science. A roof installed by technicians who appreciate ventilation pathways, energy efficiency, and moisture management is far less likely to create downstream problems.

Safety-First Culture

Roofing is inherently risky. HEP invests in:

  • OSHA-compliant fall protection systems
  • Regular crew safety training sessions
  • Strict tool and ladder maintenance schedules

By prioritizing safety, HEP reduces incident rates and maintains project momentum, resulting in more predictable completion times.

Transparent Communication

From photo updates during tear-off to final walkthroughs, homeowners never wonder what’s happening above their ceiling. Clear communication prevents surprises and builds confidence in the finished product.

Roofing Materials Commonly Deployed by HEP

Architectural Asphalt Shingles

Durability, affordability, and style converge in the architectural shingle. Multi-layer construction and expanded color palettes allow these shingles to enhance curb appeal without compromising weather resistance.

Metal Roofing Panels

For homeowners seeking extended lifespan and a sleek aesthetic, standing-seam metal is a compelling option. Benefits include:

  • Exceptional wind uplift ratings
  • Non-combustible surface ideal near heavily wooded lots
  • Minimal maintenance requirements
  • Reflective coatings that reduce cooling costs

Synthetic Slate and Shake

Advanced polymer composite shingles emulate the elegance of natural slate or cedar without the weight or maintenance challenges. These products suit heritage-style homes while offering modern performance perks.

Low-Slope Roofing Solutions

Porches, sunrooms, or transitional roof sections sometimes feature pitches below 4/12. HEP deploys specialized systems such as:

  • Modified bitumen membranes with granular surfaces
  • Self-adhered roofing rolls for fast, flame-free installation
  • TPO single-ply membranes reinforced with scrim for puncture resistance

By matching low-slope zones with the correct membrane, HEP eliminates pooling and seam failures typically seen with standard shingles on shallow pitches.

Maintaining a New Roof for Maximum Longevity

Even the best-installed roof benefits from routine care. Homeowners can extend service life through simple, periodic actions.

Biannual Visual Inspections

  • Check for missing, cracked, or curled shingles after seasonal storms
  • Inspect attic ventilation points for blockages or nests
  • Verify that flashing remains flush against chimneys and walls

Gutter and Downspout Care

  • Remove leaves and twigs twice yearly
  • Confirm that water flows freely out of downspouts and away from foundations
  • Install gutter guards if surrounding trees drop heavy debris

Moss and Algae Mitigation

Dunlap’s humidity can nurture organic growth on shaded roof sections. Zinc or copper strips along ridge lines can discourage moss, while gentle, manufacturer-approved cleaning preserves shingle integrity.

Tree Limb Management

Overhanging branches scrape granules from shingles and deposit sap, accelerating wear. Trimming limbs back at least six feet from roof edges minimizes abrasion and leaf accumulation.

Attic Environment Monitoring

  • Check insulation levels to prevent heat migration
  • Place humidity sensors to detect moisture build-up early
  • Ensure soffit vents remain unobstructed by insulation or debris

By partnering with HEP for periodic inspections, homeowners can catch minor issues before they escalate into costly repairs.

Sustainability Considerations in Roofing

HEP incorporates eco-friendly practices into standard operations, recognizing that roofing done right also means roofing done responsibly.

Recycled Content Materials

Many asphalt shingles now contain post-consumer or post-industrial recycled content. Selecting these products reduces landfill load and conserves raw materials.

Cool Roof Technologies

Reflective shingle granules and specialized metal coatings resist solar gain, lowering attic temperatures and reducing HVAC demand. Over time, energy savings offset initial material costs.

Recycling Tear-Off Debris

HEP partners with local facilities capable of repurposing asphalt shingles into roadway aggregate. Diverting debris from landfills not only helps the environment but also keeps disposal fees in check.

Ventilation Upgrades That Reduce Energy Use

Enhanced airflow in attics stabilizes indoor temperatures, allowing HVAC systems to cycle less frequently. Homeowners enjoy lower utility bills alongside extended roof life.

Common Roofing Issues in Dunlap and How HEP Prevents Them

Wind Uplift

Sudden gusts funneling through valley corridors can rip unsecured shingles. HEP’s six-nail pattern and high-bond sealant strips lock each shingle tightly to the deck.

Thermal Cracking

Temperature spikes cause expansion and contraction, leading older shingles to crack. Flexible asphalt blends and proper attic ventilation reduce thermal stress in new installations.

Moisture Intrusion

Improperly flashed penetrations allow water to seep into attics. HEP’s layered flashing systems and premium boot materials create redundant barriers against leaks.

Granule Loss

Granules guard asphalt from UV rays. Inadequate nailing or foot traffic can loosen them. HEP’s precise shingle placement and protective plywood walk boards during installation preserve granule integrity.

Ice Dams

While less common in Dunlap, occasional freezes can cause water to back up under shingles. Correct insulation levels and continuous ridge vents lower attic temperatures, preventing snowmelt refreeze at eaves.

The Role of Building Codes and Manufacturer Specifications

Adherence to local building codes ensures roofing systems can withstand Dunlap’s climatic loads. HEP stays current with code cycles, integrating updates such as:

  • Nail length and penetration depth requirements
  • Wind speed designations for edge zones
  • Fire rating classifications for material types

Manufacturers back their shingles and accessories only when installed according to precise guidelines. HEP’s commitment to these specifications secures long-term warranty coverage for property owners.

The Aesthetic Impact of a HEP Roof

A roof accounts for nearly half of a home’s visible exterior. Selecting the right style, color, and texture can elevate curb appeal dramatically.

Color Blending Strategies

  • Earth-toned shingles complement natural stone accents
  • Cool grays pair well with contemporary metal or fiber-cement siding
  • Contrasting hues create defined rooflines for Craftsman-style homes

Texture and Depth

Architectural shingles add dimensionality through shadow lines and varied tab shapes, accentuating roof planes under Dunlap’s bright sun.

Harmonizing With Trim and Accent Features

Matching ridge caps, vent stacks, and drip edges to gutter and fascia colors creates a cohesive, intentional look.

Longevity Expectations

A roof executed under the “roofing done right” philosophy can exceed anticipated service life. For example:

  • Architectural asphalt shingles: 25–30+ years
  • Standing-seam metal panels: 40–60+ years
  • Synthetic slate: 50+ years

Regular inspections and prompt minor repairs further extend these timelines.

Storm Response and Emergency Solutions

Although the focus is on proactive craftsmanship, severe weather can strike without warning. HEP maintains rapid-response protocols to address:

  • Temporary tarping after wind or hail impact
  • Debris removal to prevent secondary water infiltration
  • Detailed damage documentation for insurance coordination

Swift action secures the property until permanent repairs or full replacement can proceed.

Why “Roofing Done Right” Supports Property Value

A sound roof affects both daily comfort and long-term investment. Buyers in Dunlap frequently scrutinize roofing condition during inspections. Choosing HEP’s meticulous approach yields:

  • Positive inspection reports that speed closing timelines
  • Reduced likelihood of appraisal adjustments for deferred maintenance
  • Peace of mind for both seller and buyer, reflected in stronger offers

In short, roofing done right doesn’t just shield a home from the elements—it bolsters its market desirability.

Preparing for a Roofing Project With HEP

Homeowners often ask how to facilitate a smooth installation experience. While HEP manages the technical side, simple preparations help streamline the job:

  • Clear driveways for material delivery staging
  • Remove wall hangings prone to vibration during hammering
