What our customers say

Spoke with Jason and was very happy. This was an estimate for roofing repairs, Jason was very polite and professional. He took the time to point out any issues he found and had a valid explanation for each concern. Jason answered all my questions and I feel he was honest and didn't sugar coat or inflate any concern. We have used Hep in the past for plumbing and was happy with that too. We have another estimate to get but its going to be hard to be the confidence I feel in Jason after our talk. We had some interior ceiling repair also by Tom and Jimmy, excellent job. Impressed with the texture matching.

HEP did my new roof recently and did an excellent job. They were very professional and knowledgeable about what my home needed and were efficient in getting the job done. Their price was also very competitive with the 2 other estimates I got. They cleaned up afterwards so you could never tell they were there except for a beautiful new, nonleaking roof. Will definitely use them again in future work at my home. Thank you HEP for making this job so easy to get done!

The service was very fast. We had a technician out to check our furnace and he kindly informed us they no longer make the parts that we would need, which is understandable as the unit was manufactured in 1997. They were able to get a team out the very next day to install a new HVAC unit and furnace, these gentlemen worked extremely hard from daylight to dark finally finishing up around 9 PM. They had everything up and running and we’re so quiet and thorough. I barely knew they were there! We did have an issue with the unit cooling after start up. I called the following morning and had a technician out within a few hours that fixed the issue. Overall, the entire process was extremely easy, fast, and thorough. We have a roofing project to begin next week with this company as well and only expect great things going forward!

Advanced Material Options for Tennessee Homeowners

Modern roofing science has expanded far beyond the basic asphalt shingle. HEP keeps pace with innovation, offering a range of advanced materials that can be tailored to Tennessee’s diverse environmental zones—from the humid river valleys of West Tennessee to the higher elevations of the Cumberland Plateau.

Composite Shingles

Engineered from a blend of polymers and recycled content, composite shingles give the look of cedar shake or slate without the weight or maintenance.

  • Superior impact resistance for hail-prone counties
  • Fade-resistant pigments that withstand UV rays
  • Lightweight yet strong construction that does not require structural reinforcement

Cool Roof Coatings

When intense summer heat pushes air-conditioning systems to their limits, reflective coatings can reduce roof surface temperatures by up to 50 °F (10 °C).

  • High solar reflectance index (SRI) values
  • Energy savings that translate into reduced carbon footprints
  • Compatibility with both low-slope and steep-slope assemblies

Self-Adhering Underlayments

In regions susceptible to wind-driven rain, self-adhering membranes provide an extra watertight layer beneath shingles or metal panels.

  • Superior adhesion to deck substrates
  • No fastener penetrations, minimizing leak pathways
  • Granular top surfaces that improve shingle grip during installation

The Crucial Role of Attic Ventilation in Roofing Done Right

Proper airflow under the roof deck prevents moisture accumulation, regulates temperatures, and extends material lifespan. HEP integrates balanced ventilation into every project.

In-Depth Ventilation Evaluation

  • Calculation of net free vent area (NFVA) to determine intake and exhaust requirements
  • Thermal imaging to identify hot spots during initial assessments
  • Recommendations for ridge vents, soffit vents, or gable vents tailored to roof geometry

Benefits of Correct Ventilation

  • Reduced risk of ice damming in higher elevations
  • Lower attic humidity, preventing mold growth and wood rot
  • Enhanced effectiveness of attic insulation, stabilizing indoor temperatures year-round

Region-Specific Roofing Considerations Across Tennessee

West Tennessee: Humidity and Heavy Rains

  • Larger gutter profiles to manage sudden downpours
  • Algae-resistant shingles that deter streaking in damp climates
  • Reinforced valley flashing for rapid water shedding

Middle Tennessee: Temperature Swings and Straight-Line Winds

  • Dimensional shingles with upgraded wind ratings
  • Additional starter strip adhesion along eaves to combat uplift
  • Thermal expansion joints on metal panels to handle rapid temperature changes

East Tennessee: Elevation, Snow, and Ice Loads

  • Ice-and-water barriers installed two courses beyond the interior wall line
  • Snow guard systems for metal roofs to control sliding snow
  • Structural decking assessments for heavier snow load requirements

Integration with Other Home Systems

Solar-Ready Roofing

Tennessee’s sunny seasons make photovoltaic (PV) adoption increasingly attractive. HEP prepares roofs for future solar installations by:

  • Aligning rafter spacing to support PV rail mounting
  • Installing conduit pathways before shingles are laid
  • Utilizing underlayment rated for higher service temperatures under solar arrays

Rainwater Harvesting Compatibility

For homeowners interested in sustainability, HEP can configure gutter systems that feed:

  • Above-ground rain barrels
  • Underground cisterns
  • Filtration setups for garden irrigation

By planning roof pitches, downspout placements, and overflow protections, the company ensures clean collection and minimal contamination.

Technology-Driven Precision

Drone-Assisted Inspections

Unmanned aerial vehicles capture high-resolution imagery of hard-to-reach slopes, chimneys, and valleys, offering:

  • Faster assessments without risking crew safety
  • Precise measurements for material ordering
  • Early detection of micro-fractures or granule loss invisible from the ground

Digital Project Dashboards

Homeowners receive online access to:

  • Real-time progress updates
  • Photo documentation of each installation phase
  • Post-completion maintenance reminders

Roofing and Home Resale Value

A new roof consistently ranks among the top exterior upgrades influencing buyer perceptions. HEP’s attention to architectural harmony, color coordination, and premium accessories enhances curb appeal that translates to tangible financial returns at closing.

Key Curb Appeal Elements

  • Shingle color palettes selected to complement brick, siding, or stone
  • Low-profile ridge vents that maintain a seamless roofline
  • Decorative metal accents—such as copper valleys or standing seam porch roofs—for visual contrast

Weatherproof Flashing: The Unsung Hero

While shingles or panels form the majority of the roof surface, flashing creates watertight transitions at vulnerable points.

Flashing Types Utilized by HEP

  • Step flashing along sidewalls
  • Counter-flashing embedded into masonry chimneys
  • Pipe boot flashings molded from premium silicone for UV resistance
  • Drip edge flashing with hemmed edges to guide water away from fascia

Each flashing component is secured with corrosion-resistant fasteners and sealed with high-grade elastomeric sealants, ensuring no weak link in the moisture defense chain.

Structural Reinforcement for Older Homes

Tennessee’s historic housing stock often requires deck or rafter upgrades before new roofing can be installed safely.

Reinforcement Strategies

  • Sistering dimensional lumber onto existing rafters for added load capacity
  • Sheathing replacement with thicker, APA-rated panels
  • Installation of hurricane clips in wind-exposed regions

These measures not only meet current building codes but also set the stage for decades of safe, trouble-free roof performance.

Storm Preparedness and Post-Event Response

Pre-Season Inspections

HEP recommends a proactive inspection each spring and fall. Storm-readiness checks examine:

  • Securement of ridge caps and hip shingles
  • Integrity of sealants around penetrations
  • Condition of gutters and downspouts to prevent overflow

Rapid Response Protocol

If severe weather does strike, HEP mobilizes:

  • Tarping crews to provide immediate temporary protection
  • Moisture mapping technologies to locate hidden water intrusion
  • Detailed reports suitable for submission to home insurance carriers

Commitment to Continuous Training

HEP’s installers participate in annual upskilling sessions that cover:

  • Latest shingle technologies and installation nuances
  • Advances in adhesive chemistry for underlayments
  • Evolving state and local code amendments

By fostering a culture of learning, the team maintains a competitive edge, ensuring every Tennessee project benefits from the most current roofing science.

Enhancing Indoor Comfort Through Roofing Upgrades

Radiant Barriers

Installed beneath roof decking, radiant barriers reflect radiant heat, significantly reducing cooling loads during Tennessee’s peak summer months.

  • Perforated varieties prevent moisture trapping
  • Compatible with both vented and conditioned attics
  • Works synergistically with high-R attic insulation

Noise Reduction

Metal, composite, and asphalt systems can all be paired with specialized acoustic underlayments that dampen rain impact noise—an added comfort benefit during intense thunderstorms.

The HEP Quality Checklist: Ensuring Roofing Done Right

  • Verification of decking fastener spacing
  • Confirmation of uniform shingle overhang at edges
  • Torque testing on metal panel clips
  • Calibration of nail guns before each installation
  • Documentation of weather conditions during critical installation phases

By adhering to this rigorous checklist, HEP sets measurable standards that uphold the “done right” promise.

In-Depth Look at Roof Drainage Design

Proper drainage extends beyond gutters. HEP engineers the entire water-shedding path.

Key Design Elements

  • Optimal valley slope angles to accelerate runoff
  • Kick-out flashings at siding terminations
  • Splash blocks or drain tiles that redirect water away from foundations

Benefits of Comprehensive Drainage

  • Prevention of fascia rot and soffit damage
  • Reduced soil erosion around the home’s perimeter
  • Mitigation of basement or crawl space moisture issues

Sustainable Roofing Practices for a Greener Tennessee

Environmental responsibility is woven into the Roofing Done Right philosophy, ensuring each project leaves a lighter footprint on Tennessee’s forests, waterways, and urban centers.

Material Recycling and Waste Diversion

  • Segregation of asphalt shingles for repurposing into roadway aggregate
  • Recovery of metal scraps for smelting and re-use
  • Cardboard and plastic wrapping sent to certified recycling facilities
  • Onsite waste logs that document diversion percentages on every job

By keeping tons of debris out of landfills, HEP supports statewide sustainability goals and demonstrates leadership in green construction.

Low-VOC Adhesives and Sealants

Traditional roofing cements can off-gas chemicals that contribute to indoor air pollution. HEP specifies low-VOC formulations that meet rigorous environmental standards without sacrificing bond strength or longevity.

Waterborne Primers and Coatings

When a primer or elastomeric topcoat is required, waterborne products are prioritized. These coatings cure quickly, emit fewer odors, and clean up with minimal solvents, reducing job-site hazards and environmental impact.

Seasonal Maintenance Roadmap for Homeowners

A roof’s longevity is maximized when homeowners perform small, regular upkeep tasks. HEP provides a tailored maintenance roadmap that aligns with Tennessee’s four distinct seasons.

Spring Checklist

  • Clear winter debris from valleys and gutters
  • Inspect flashing seams for temperature-related movement
  • Verify attic ventilation after seasonal storms

Summer Heat Readiness

  • Remove any encroaching tree branches to prevent abrasion
  • Check for sun-blistered shingles or coatings
  • Ensure radiant barriers remain intact and reflective

Autumn Preparations

  • Clean gutters of falling leaves to prevent water backup
  • Confirm shingles are properly sealed before winter freezes
  • Schedule attic insulation top-ups if deficiencies are noted

Winter Vigilance

  • Monitor for ice dam formation during prolonged freezes
  • Verify that snow guards are functioning on metal roofs
  • Inspect attic ceilings for signs of condensation or leaks

Homeowners who follow these checkpoints often experience fewer emergency repairs and enjoy extended warranty coverage compliance.

Debunking Common Roofing Myths in Tennessee

  • “Metal roofs attract lightning.”
Lightning seeks the tallest point, not metal specifically. A grounded metal roof can safely dissipate strikes without ignition risk.

  • “All dark shingles overheat the attic.”
Modern dark shingles with advanced reflective granules can achieve similar thermal performance to lighter colors.

  • “New roofs don’t need maintenance for a decade.”
Even pristine installations benefit from semi-annual inspections that catch minor issues before they escalate.

  • “Adding more attic vents always helps.”
Ventilation must be balanced; excess exhaust without intake can draw conditioned air from living spaces, raising energy bills.

Architectural Styles and Customized Roofing Solutions

Tennessee’s housing stock ranges from rustic mountain cabins to modern urban infill. HEP adapts roofing systems to respect each style’s aesthetic and structural nuances.

Ranch Homes

Single-story ranch designs benefit from low-profile dimensional shingles or standing seam metal that emphasizes horizontal lines while delivering superior water shedding on moderate pitches.

Craftsman Bungalows

Accent gables and thick overhangs are hallmarks of Craftsman architecture. HEP integrates decorative bracket-friendly drip edges and color-blended shingle patterns that harmonize with exposed rafter tails and tapered columns.

Log Cabins in the Smokies

Heavy snow loads and steep pitches demand robust underlayments, ice barriers, and often metal roofs with snow guards. Natural earth-tone palettes ensure the roof blends seamlessly into wooded surroundings.

Fire Resistance and Wildland–Urban Interface Considerations

Drier summers and the occasional forest fire highlight the need for non-combustible roofing assemblies in Tennessee’s wooded regions.

Class A Assemblies

HEP specifies Class A-rated shingles, tiles, or metal panels that resist flame spread and ember penetration, providing a critical defense line for homes bordering wilderness areas.

Ember Protection Strategies

  • Installation of metal mesh over ridge and soffit vents
  • Sealing of gaps at roof-wall junctions
  • Use of non-combustible underlayment layers

These measures help prevent wind-blown embers from igniting attic contents, a leading cause of structure loss during wildfires.

Workforce Safety Protocols That Protect Quality

A safe crew is a focused crew. HEP’s safety culture directly influences craftsmanship and schedule reliability.

Fall Arrest Systems

  • OSHA-compliant harnesses and anchor points on every pitch exceeding 4:12
  • Use of guardrails or warning lines on low-slope roofs
  • Daily equipment inspections logged digitally for accountability

Job-Site Housekeeping

  • Designated debris chutes keep walkways clear
  • Tool lanyards prevent dropped-object hazards
  • End-of-day sweep ensures no fasteners remain on lawns or driveways

By eliminating safety incidents, teams maintain momentum and uphold stringent installation standards.

Integrated Insulation and Air Sealing

Roof replacements offer an ideal opportunity to upgrade the building envelope.

The Attic-Envelope Connection

  • Blown-in cellulose or fiberglass at optimal R-values for each climate zone
  • Spray-foam sealing of top-plate gaps to block air infiltration
  • Insulated attic hatches and pull-down stairs to maintain envelope continuity

Combining robust insulation with a high-performance roof delivers measurable energy savings and heightened interior comfort.

Future-Proofing Your Investment

Modular Repairability

HEP designs roof installations for straightforward future repairs by:

  • Using standardized accessory sizes
  • Documenting fastener patterns in the homeowner dashboard
  • Applying color-coded underlayment sections to guide repair crews

Adaptive Ventilation Ports

Should attic use change—such as conversion to livable space—ventilation ports can be adjusted or supplemented without major disruption to the existing roofing system.
