FAQs

What are the common signs of a main line clog?

Common signs of a main line clog include multiple drains running slowly or not draining at all, gurgling sounds from toilets and drains, water backing up in different fixtures when another is in use (e.g., water from a washing machine backing up into a bathtub), and an unpleasant odor from drains.

What causes main line clogs?

Main line clogs can be caused by a variety of factors, including the buildup of grease, hair, soap scum, and other debris; tree root intrusion; broken or collapsed pipes; and flushing inappropriate items down the toilet, such as wipes or feminine hygiene products.

How can I prevent main line clogs?

To prevent main line clogs, avoid flushing non-degradable items down the toilet, reduce the amount of grease and food waste going down the kitchen sink by using a strainer, and regularly clean drain stoppers and traps. Additionally, periodic professional inspections and hydro-jetting can help keep the main line clear.

What should I do if I suspect a main line clog?

If you suspect a main line clog, avoid using water fixtures and call a professional plumber immediately. Using fixtures can exacerbate the problem and lead to water damage. Professionals have the tools and expertise to diagnose and fix the clog without causing further damage.

Can tree roots really damage my main line?

Yes, tree roots are a common cause of main line damage. Roots naturally seek out sources of water and nutrients, and can infiltrate small cracks or joints in the pipes. Over time, they expand and cause blockages or even breakages. Regular maintenance and root cutting services can help mitigate this risk.

How is a main line clog typically fixed?

A main line clog is typically fixed using techniques like snaking, hydro-jetting, or trenchless pipe repair. Snaking uses a long, flexible auger to break up the clog, while hydro-jetting uses high-pressure water to clear blockages and clean the pipes. For structural damage, trenchless pipe repair methods like pipe lining or pipe bursting can replace or repair the line with minimal excavation.

We had a water main break that required urgent repair. The technician who did the estimate (Luke) discovered corroded, leaking copper pipes under our house. So we had our water main and plumbing for the entire house replaced. We appreciate Luke, Jesse, Zach, Bryan, Tyler, Mike, Charles and Malorie. Each of these people did a fantastic job. I believe Tyler and Mike plumbed the house. They put in a very long day to get the job done. We are very impressed with the quality of work on this urgent job. We highly recommend HEP Is On The Way.

Brett Nicely, was very helpful and informative. Gave several options to fix the problem. He was the 3 person we've had look over our pipes. He showed us everything and discussed options with us after finding the rout of the problem.

Amazing company in every aspect! I needed a full line replacement of 90ft from my water meter to my house. Never had any experience in dealing with this. Contacted HEP, and they walked me through every step along the way. The technician who came to evaluate the problem was pleasant and knew his stuff. (Corbin) HEP was in constant contact with me about everything, and contacted me afterwards to make sure things were done up to par. (Raeshel) They arrived on time, went above and beyond my expectations, and preserved my property. (Billy and Stephen) Will be recommending this company to all my friends!

Zach and Malik came out to complete our water main replacement. It was a tricky project that had a total of 6 people out here on 3 separate days. All of them were courteous and personable, conscientious in doing their work well and making things look as good as possible after a yard is dug up. Much appreciated.

We used HEP is on the way to take care of a septic tank issue that flooded our downstairs. They sent out Chase Rost to help us with the issue and discovered we had a large rat lodged in one of our pipes. Chase was an awesome guy, super personable and knowledgeable. Would prefer to have Chase help us out in the future if anything else were to happen based on this experience. Thanks Chase!
