We needed a repair to our AC system at the peak of last summer's heat and HEP were the only folks who were able to come out (or even answer the phone, for that matter). They actually managed to get someone to our place that same day and relieve our 95° misery. So I was quick to consider them last week when we had more trouble with our 10-year-old system this spring. Again they were very responsive - and although they weren't able to fix the problem right then (a combination of factors necessitated a more extensive replacement) they promptly quoted the more involved work that was needed. I considered other options for a couple of days without seeing an obvious better choice that was available to do the work, then called to say I was ready to hire HEP for the work. Bob Mathews promptly came to my workplace to finalize all the details of the proposal with me... and then arranged for the work to begin within two days, even though it was an awkward downtown job the would require a crane for roof access. When the actual day of work came I had a last minute panic about the specific equipment choice we'd made and Bob was quick to answer the phone and go over the details again, clarifying my area of uncertainty. The team who came to do the actual installation of our new coils and condenser unit consisted of Tommy Fitzgerald and Joshua McCarty, both excellent guys. They were intent on doing a thorough job and communicating what they were up to as they did it. My wife and I both felt completely comfortable with them. All in all this was a great experience, even though it involved suddenly having to spend a bit of cash we weren't expecting to. Thanks Bob, Joe, Tommy, and Joshua - it's great to have working AC again!

95 degrees and my air goes out! Three hours later George arrives. I took only five minutes and all was working. George must have done the repair a million times because he knew just what it was. The repair was $327 but it beat paying $3,000 for a new compressor! George was friendly and had a big smile. I would highly recommend HEP.!!!!

  • Retrofitting dual-fuel compatibility for fluctuating energy markets

Smart Home Compatibility

Voice-activated thermostats, energy dashboards, and predictive service alerts round out an ecosystem that maximizes both comfort and convenience.

Whole-Home Performance Approach

A heating system rarely operates in isolation. The efficiency and reliability of every furnace, heat pump, or air handler are deeply intertwined with the construction and layout of the home itself. HEP’s holistic philosophy considers the entire building as a single interactive system rather than a collection of standalone parts.

Building Envelope Impact on Heating Load

Poorly insulated walls, drafty windows, and unsealed penetration points allow conditioned air to escape and cold air to infiltrate. This infiltration forces heating equipment to cycle more frequently, accelerating wear. HEP evaluates:

  • Attic R-value and blown-in insulation distribution
  • Weatherstripping condition around doors and operable windows
  • Thermal bridging along studs, joists, and rim boards
  • Foundation wall sealing in crawlspaces and basements

By identifying and mitigating these envelope weaknesses, heat demand decreases, allowing the repaired system to operate at a lower duty cycle, extending lifespan and conserving energy.

Airflow Balancing and Room Pressurization

Even an impeccably tuned furnace can underperform if supply and return airflows are unbalanced. Excessive positive or negative pressure in closed rooms encourages uncontrolled air movement through walls or gaps, diverting precious heat. HEP technicians:

  • Adjust manual balancing dampers in branch ducts
  • Measure room-by-room supply CFMs and compare to design targets
  • Recommend transfer grilles or jump ducts for pressure relief
  • Verify door undercuts to maintain air pathways when doors are closed

Balanced airflow enhances comfort, eliminates temperature stratification, and ensures each repaired component functions in harmony with the duct system.

HEP’s Emergency Preparedness Tips for Homeowners

Heating failures sometimes coincide with regional power outages or severe weather events that hamper immediate professional assistance. Prepared homeowners can maintain safety and minimize damage until repairs are feasible.

Essential Supplies During Outages

  • Battery-operated or crank-powered flashlights
  • Extra blankets and layered clothing
  • Shelf-stable food that requires minimal cooking
  • Surge protectors for sensitive electronics when power returns
  • Portable, UL-listed carbon monoxide detectors with fresh batteries

Assembling these items in advance reduces stress during unexpected downtime.

Safe Temporary Heating Alternatives

If portable space heaters or wood stoves are employed, HEP emphasizes:

  • Keeping flammable materials a minimum of three feet away
  • Ensuring adequate ventilation to avoid indoor air contamination
  • Never leaving temporary heaters unattended, especially overnight
  • Placing units on stable, non-combustible surfaces

Following these guidelines preserves safety until primary heating is restored.

Post-Outage System Recovery

Once utilities stabilize, homeowners should:

  • Inspect exterior vents for storm debris
  • Listen for unusual startup noises on the first heating cycle
  • Verify thermostat programming survived any power interruption

Promptly addressing anomalies after an outage prevents small issues from maturing into extensive repairs down the line.

By uniting expert technical knowledge, localized experience, and a proactive maintenance philosophy, HEP delivers heat repair solutions that keep Kodak homes cozy, energy-efficient, and safe all winter long.
