I met Rueben from HEP today concerning a tune-up for my water heater. Because of the age of my water heater, 25 years, and the fact it was working perfectly, I decided due to the valve being plastic and a fear of breaking it not to do the tune-up. Rueben agreed and was kind enough give me a quote on replacing the water heater and showed me a product to keep my drain lines clear. Very nice person and very thorough in his explanation of all that HEP could offer us. Great company and great employees. I also had Zac and Adam replace two bathroom switches, as well as, install a LED light fixture in the shower. They also replaced three outside lights that we had been needing replaced for years. Great young men and are valuable asset to your company. I called HEP at 11:00 a.m., and spoke to a very nice young lady concerning a strong odor of methane gas in our laundry room and upstairs bathroom. She said a plumber would be at my house between 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. today. I received a call at 1:15 p.m. saying the plumbers were on their way. They were here by 1:40 p.m. I met two young who both were named Shaun. They were from our first handshake to our goodbye cordial, congenial, and very knowledgeable. Extremely professional young men. The moment they walked into the bathroom with the strong methane odor they knew what was wrong by asking one question. How often do you run that shower? When I told them rarely, they told me exactly what was wrong. The water in the trap for the shower had evaporated from lack of use and that was allowing the sewer gas that is normally blocked by the water in the trap to leak out of the shower drain. After a few flushes of the toilet and some running of water in the shower, my problem was solved. They took the time to clean out the shower drain and they were finished. I bought the Service Plan because of their honesty and their wonderful demeanor. Shaun and Shaun are credits to your company in many ways. I will use your company again in the future because of this visit. Thank you.

Adam came today to install some new lighting in our kitchen. The previous owners decided to DIY a hideous LED light fixture that had been torturing us with strobe lighting for over a year. We got some new track lights at Lowe’s and called HEP they called us the next day and the day after Adam came out and installed the new fixtures in about two hours. He did a great job and even fixed the orientation of the light switches which are also DIY and backwards. Definitely will use HEP for all our electric needs in the future!

HEP’s electrical lighting upgrade service is engineered to unlock all of these advantages through a turnkey process that transforms outdated fixtures into sophisticated, energy-efficient systems.

The Growing Importance of Energy Efficiency in Yamhill County

While energy efficiency is a global priority, the stakes feel particularly tangible in McMinnville. Municipal initiatives promote sustainable growth, wineries pursue eco-friendly operations, and manufacturers seek cost stability amid fluctuating utility rates. HEP’s lighting upgrades align seamlessly with these local ambitions—delivering measurable savings and helping organizations showcase their environmental stewardship.

How HEP Approaches Lighting Retrofits

HEP does not simply swap bulbs; it tailors each project to the client’s operational needs, architectural constraints, and long-term objectives. From precise lighting calculations to post-installation tuning, every phase is engineered to yield optimal lumen output, energy savings, and occupant comfort.

Comprehensive Lighting Upgrade Services

HEP’s McMinnville projects follow an integrated approach in which design, procurement, installation, and commissioning are managed under one roof. This cohesion removes coordination headaches and accelerates timelines.

Audit and Design

A successful retrofit begins with a detailed site audit that captures:

  • Fixture counts and types
  • Mounting heights and spacing
  • Circuit loading and panel capacity
  • Daylight availability
  • Occupancy patterns
  • Applicable building codes and utility programs

Using photometric software, HEP’s designers map out foot-candle levels, identify glare risks, and simulate energy reductions. The result is a clear project roadmap that anticipates ROI, payback period, and potential utility incentives.

Fixture and Control Selection

Each McMinnville facility has unique characteristics—so HEP’s product mix is never one-size-fits-all.

  • High-bay LEDs with wide distribution patterns for industrial spaces
  • Recessed troffers or flat panels with low-profile housings for offices
  • Architectural luminaires featuring adjustable CCT for retail environments
  • IP-rated fixtures with sealed optics for food-processing or agricultural settings
  • Adaptive controls such as motion sensors, daylight harvesting, and wireless mesh networking

Every selection balances energy performance, visual comfort, ease of maintenance, and future scalability.

Professional Installation with Minimal Disruption

HEP’s field crews work in occupied spaces without undermining daily operations. Dust control, ladder safety, lockout/tagout procedures, and after-hours scheduling are commonplace. Crews label circuits, balance loads, and verify grounding integrity to ensure a seamless transition from legacy fixtures to new LEDs.

Post-Installation Testing and Verification

Commissioning includes:

  • Light-level measurements to confirm design targets
  • Functional testing of sensors, dimmers, and scheduling controls
  • Power quality assessments to guard against harmonics or nuisance tripping
  • Documentation of actual energy consumption versus projections

This data becomes the foundation for utility incentive submissions and internal sustainability reporting.

Benefits of Choosing HEP for Lighting Upgrades in McMinnville

  • Consistent luminaire quality that reduces premature failures
  • Integrated controls that slash energy costs by up to 70 % in many applications
  • Elevated aesthetics that enhance customer experience and employee satisfaction
  • Visual consistency across production lines, reducing color mismatch errors
  • Robust warranties supported by local technicians and rapid parts availability
  • Streamlined utility rebate paperwork handled on behalf of the client
  • Deep familiarity with Oregon electrification codes, assuring smooth inspections

Energy Savings and Environmental Impact

Switching from outdated fluorescent, metal halide, or high-pressure sodium fixtures to LEDs delivers dramatic efficiency gains. Typical watts-per-square-foot values plummet, yielding:

  • Lower peak demand charges
  • Reduced HVAC loads because LEDs emit less heat
  • Decreased maintenance visits, thanks to 50,000-hour-plus rated lifespans
  • Fewer lamp disposals and lower mercury exposure compared to fluorescents

Across McMinnville’s commercial landscape, these gains translate into tangible reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions—a significant win for businesses that publish sustainability metrics.

LED Technology Explained

Lumens vs. Watts

Legacy lighting often relied on wattage as a proxy for brightness. LEDs decouple these concepts; a 15-watt LED can deliver the same lumens as a 32-watt fluorescent. HEP’s design team focuses on lumens-per-watt efficiency, tailoring each space to its tasks rather than outdated wattage standards.

Color Temperature and CRI

McMinnville tasting rooms might prefer warm-white (3000 K) tones that flatter wood barrels, whereas aerospace fabrication zones require neutral-white (4000 K) for accurate inspection. Color Rendering Index (CRI) above 80 ensures true color perception, crucial for retail merchandising and print shops.

Integrated Controls and Smart Features

Sensors, wireless gateways, and cloud dashboards turn ordinary fixtures into intelligent assets:

  • Occupancy sensing trims energy during downtime
  • Daylight harvesting dynamically dims perimeter rows based on sunlight penetration
  • Time-of-day scheduling automates exterior façade lighting

HEP configures these features to fit each facility’s operational cadence.

Specialized Lighting Solutions for Different Sectors

Commercial Offices

Open-plan workplaces benefit from low-glare diffusers and tunable white technology that aligns with circadian rhythms—boosting productivity and reducing eye strain.

Industrial and Manufacturing Plants

High-bay LEDs with lensing options combat stroboscopic effects, essential around fast-moving machinery. Robust housing resists vibration and airborne particulates.

Retail Stores and Restaurants

Track heads with precise beam spreads accentuate merchandise or culinary presentations, while dimming controls allow ambience shifts between dayparts.

Agricultural and Winery Facilities

IP66-rated luminaires withstand humidity and chemical wash-downs. Spectrum tuning can promote plant growth in vertical farms and greenhouse extensions.

Municipal and Educational Buildings

Classrooms and civic centers benefit from low maintenance and enhanced security lighting, ensuring well-lit pathways and common areas year-round.

Compliance with Oregon Codes and Incentives

Oregon Energy Code Highlights

Projects must satisfy stringent power density limits, mandatory control provisions, and commissioning documentation. HEP’s design submittals streamline approval by incorporating:

  • ASHRAE/IES recommended light-level adherence
  • Automatic shutoff strategies that meet or exceed code
  • Detailed one-line diagrams and load summaries

Utility Rebates and Tax Credits

While incentive structures vary, many McMinnville facilities qualify for:

  • Prescriptive rebates per fixture type
  • Custom kWh-based incentives for deep energy savings
  • Accelerated depreciation benefits for qualifying equipment

HEP’s administrative team compiles fixture lists, building permits, and post-installation data logs to maximize these opportunities.

Safety Considerations During an Upgrade

Electrical System Assessment

Before installation, HEP electricians analyze panel schedules, breaker ratings, and conductor sizing. Any deficiencies—such as aged insulation or double-lugging—are rectified to prevent overloads.

Proper Disposal of Legacy Lamps

Fluorescent tubes often contain mercury; metal halides may harbor hazardous metals. HEP coordinates recycling through certified facilities, supplying clients with waste-manifest documentation.

Fire Prevention and Code Adherence

Upgrades incorporate fire-rated penetrations, conduit supports, and thermal management protocols to ensure fixtures do not exceed listed operating temperatures.

The HEP Project Workflow Step-by-Step

  • Initial consultation and definition of performance goals
  • Detailed site audit and data logging

HEP’s solutions address each pain point with targeted fixture choices, controls integration, and thermal management strategies.

A Real-World Scenario: Transforming a McMinnville Manufacturing Facility

A 120,000-square-foot plant on the city’s outskirts had relied on 400-watt metal halide high bays. Light levels had dropped below 20 foot-candles in critical assembly zones, leading to inspection errors and increased rework. HEP conducted a lumen-maintenance analysis, revealing that the fixtures were operating at barely half of their initial output.

The retrofit plan introduced 165-watt LED high bays equipped with integrated occupancy sensors and programmable dimming. Photometric studies ensured a uniform 50 foot-candles on work surfaces—more than doubling the previous levels while cutting energy by roughly 62 %. Installation unfolded in phases aligned with production downtime, avoiding costly shutdowns.

Post-installation, the facility reported:

  • Reduced defect rates on precision components
  • Noticeably cooler ambient temperatures, easing HVAC strain
  • Streamlined maintenance, as on-site staff no longer stockpiled replacement ballasts and lamps

Integrating Lighting with Building Management Systems

Lighting becomes exponentially more valuable when it communicates seamlessly with a facility’s broader automation architecture. HEP engineers design systems that share real-time data with HVAC, security, and production platforms to maximize operational intelligence.

Open Protocols and Interoperability
