Adam came today to install some new lighting in our kitchen. The previous owners decided to DIY a hideous LED light fixture that had been torturing us with strobe lighting for over a year. We got some new track lights at Lowe’s and called HEP they called us the next day and the day after Adam came out and installed the new fixtures in about two hours. He did a great job and even fixed the orientation of the light switches which are also DIY and backwards. Definitely will use HEP for all our electric needs in the future!

Typical Challenges Addressed by HEP’s Lighting Upgrades

Outdated Fixtures Causing High Energy Bills

Many Church Hill properties still rely on fluorescent tubes, halogen downlights, or even incandescent bulbs. High wattage levels, frequent lamp replacements, and inconsistent output raise operational costs. HEP targets these inefficiencies by specifying LED retrofits, electronic drivers, and dimmable systems that slash consumption by up to 70 %.

Insufficient Lighting Levels in Task Areas

Poorly illuminated corridors, offices, or production lines lead to eye strain, errors, and safety risks. HEP conducts on-site lux measurements and employs dialing-in techniques to achieve recommended illumination levels. Implementing layered lighting strategies—ambient, task, and accent—ensures uniform coverage and visual comfort across varied work zones.

Compliance Gaps with New Building Codes

As efficiency requirements tighten, existing installations may no longer satisfy code-mandated maximum power densities or automatic shutoff standards. HEP navigates these regulatory complexities, bringing lighting systems back into compliance through integrated controls such as daylight-responsive dimming and scheduled shutdown programs.

Aesthetic Limitations in Heritage Buildings

Church Hill is renowned for its preserved architecture. Introducing modern lighting without detracting from historical character requires nuanced approaches. HEP conceals cabling within moldings, selects heritage-style LED lamps, and deploys cleverly positioned fixtures that highlight architectural details while blending seamlessly into vintage interiors.

The HEP Lighting Upgrade Process in Detail

Preliminary Assessment and Data Gathering

The engagement begins with an exhaustive site survey. HEP’s engineers evaluate existing fixtures, power distribution pathways, control circuitry, and structural constraints. Data loggers record real-time energy consumption profiles, while photometric readings reveal illumination gaps.

Design Development and Technology Selection

Using the collected information, HEP engineers craft a lighting design that satisfies illuminance targets, code mandates, and client preferences. Advanced software simulates light distribution, glare indices, and color-rendering effects, enabling evidence-based component selection. Deliverables include fixture schedules, control schematics, and projected ROI analyses.

Procurement of High-Quality Components

Once specifications are approved, HEP secures luminaires, control modules, and wiring accessories from vetted manufacturers. Each component undergoes quality assurance tests for voltage compatibility, thermal management, and electromagnetic interference thresholds.
