I met Rueben from HEP today concerning a tune-up for my water heater. Because of the age of my water heater, 25 years, and the fact it was working perfectly, I decided due to the valve being plastic and a fear of breaking it not to do the tune-up. Rueben agreed and was kind enough give me a quote on replacing the water heater and showed me a product to keep my drain lines clear. Very nice person and very thorough in his explanation of all that HEP could offer us. Great company and great employees. I also had Zac and Adam replace two bathroom switches, as well as, install a LED light fixture in the shower. They also replaced three outside lights that we had been needing replaced for years. Great young men and are valuable asset to your company. I called HEP at 11:00 a.m., and spoke to a very nice young lady concerning a strong odor of methane gas in our laundry room and upstairs bathroom. She said a plumber would be at my house between 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. today. I received a call at 1:15 p.m. saying the plumbers were on their way. They were here by 1:40 p.m. I met two young who both were named Shaun. They were from our first handshake to our goodbye cordial, congenial, and very knowledgeable. Extremely professional young men. The moment they walked into the bathroom with the strong methane odor they knew what was wrong by asking one question. How often do you run that shower? When I told them rarely, they told me exactly what was wrong. The water in the trap for the shower had evaporated from lack of use and that was allowing the sewer gas that is normally blocked by the water in the trap to leak out of the shower drain. After a few flushes of the toilet and some running of water in the shower, my problem was solved. They took the time to clean out the shower drain and they were finished. I bought the Service Plan because of their honesty and their wonderful demeanor. Shaun and Shaun are credits to your company in many ways. I will use your company again in the future because of this visit. Thank you.

Adam came today to install some new lighting in our kitchen. The previous owners decided to DIY a hideous LED light fixture that had been torturing us with strobe lighting for over a year. We got some new track lights at Lowe’s and called HEP they called us the next day and the day after Adam came out and installed the new fixtures in about two hours. He did a great job and even fixed the orientation of the light switches which are also DIY and backwards. Definitely will use HEP for all our electric needs in the future!

Dimming capabilities and occupancy sensors further trim kWh usage, translating into monthly savings that accumulate year after year.

Improved Visual Comfort and Ambiance

Modern lighting solutions enhance color accuracy, reduce glare, and provide more even distribution of light. Residents enjoy cozier living rooms and well-lit kitchens, while employees experience less eye strain and greater focus in office suites. Retailers, meanwhile, can highlight merchandise with precise color temperatures, drawing customers’ attention exactly where it is needed.

Reduced Environmental Footprint

Energy-efficient lighting cuts carbon emissions at their source: the power plant. Fewer kilowatt-hours consumed means fewer fossil fuels burned and less strain on the grid. Additionally, long-life lamps reduce landfill waste and streamline maintenance logistics.

Modern Lighting Technologies Implemented by HEP

LED Retrofitting

Light-emitting diode (LED) technology stands at the core of most upgrades. Benefits include:

  • Extremely low power draw per lumen produced
  • Operational life exceeding 50,000 hours in many cases
  • Minimal heat generation, which reduces HVAC load
  • Availability in a broad range of color temperatures and form factors

Smart Lighting Controls

Networked lighting controls allow users to tailor illumination to their lifestyles and workflows through:

  • Wireless dimming and scene presets
  • Occupancy and vacancy sensors for automatic shutoff
  • Daylight harvesting, which modulates interior lighting based on natural sunlight
  • Cloud-based dashboards for energy monitoring and reporting

High-Efficiency Fixtures and Bulbs

In locations where LED is not yet practical—such as certain high-temperature industrial processes—HEP employs alternative high-efficiency technologies like T5 fluorescent and advanced ceramic metal halide. All components are selected for compatibility with the existing electrical system while paving the way for future upgrades.

Integrating Lighting Upgrades with Other Building Systems

Synergy Between Lighting and HVAC Loads

Lighting and HVAC systems are inherently linked. Traditional incandescent or metal-halide fixtures convert a significant portion of electrical input into heat, elevating indoor temperatures and forcing air-conditioning systems to work harder. By contrast, LEDs emit very little radiant heat. When HEP retrofits a space with high-efficiency lighting, the reduction in thermal gain can:

  • Lower cooling loads during peak summer months
  • Extend the life of HVAC equipment by reducing run-time
  • Improve occupant comfort with more stable indoor temperatures

In industrial environments where machinery already generates considerable heat, cutting unnecessary lighting-related thermal output can be especially beneficial, ensuring that exhaust fans and chillers operate within optimal parameters.

Data-Driven Building Automation

Smart luminaires are equipped with sensors that collect occupancy and ambient-light data in real time. When integrated with a building automation system, this information can:

  • Trigger HVAC setback modes in unoccupied zones
  • Coordinate window shading to balance daylight with artificial light
  • Enable predictive maintenance by flagging anomalies in energy consumption patterns

HEP programs these systems to share data seamlessly, giving facility managers a consolidated, actionable dashboard rather than a patchwork of isolated controls.

Maximizing Rebates and Incentives in Tennessee

Energy-efficiency incentives remain a powerful driver for lighting projects. Throughout Tennessee, utility companies and state-level agencies periodically offer rebates for qualifying equipment and verified kWh reductions. HEP simplifies the application process by:

  • Preparing pre-installation energy baselines and projected savings models
  • Completing required paperwork and technical documentation
  • Coordinating post-installation inspections with utility representatives
  • Tracking program deadlines to ensure clients receive the full incentive value

These financial offsets can significantly shorten payback periods, making advanced lighting technology accessible to a broader range of property owners.

Common Misconceptions and How HEP Addresses Them

Even with abundant evidence supporting modern lighting, a few myths persist. HEP educates clients and dispels confusion by explaining that:

  • LEDs no longer produce only harsh, cool light; they now span warm ambers to crisp daylight whites.
  • Dimmable functionality is widely available and compatible with many existing wall controls when paired with the correct drivers.
  • Flicker has been virtually eliminated in quality fixtures through high-frequency drivers and careful engineering.
  • Upgrading lighting does not automatically require rewiring an entire building; many retrofits utilize existing circuits after proper load analysis.

By tackling these misconceptions early, HEP builds confidence and clarifies expectations for every stakeholder involved.
