What our customers say

I contracted with HEP to install a new HVAC system. The one they put in is an American Standard, which gets good ratings online. It is gas heat/electric air. Charlie and Avi removed the old unit, installed the new unit. got everything wired up, installed a new thermostat (old one was problematic), and hauled away the old HVAC unit. Very cool, very professional. I now have heat working correctly for the first time since March.

My HVAC system went down on a late Saturday night and i called HEP right away. They were calm and friendly on the phone, which allowed for us to get a tech out to my home. Justin came to my house at 7pm and did not leave until the problem was solved in every aspect of my issue at 11:30pm. I currently have a pregnant wife and he understood we needed to get air moving again. We worked late into the night to make sure we could have cool flowing air for the night. Once the job was completed for the day, he came back a second day to install new wiring within the home for the thermostat to the HVAC. He found and fixed previous issues from the prior homeowner and left my home better than how he found it. I am extremely appreciative of Justin and if you call HEP around the Knoxville area, I will request him in a heartbeat if I ever have any more issues and I think you should to. Thank you, Justin for your help and expertise.

My nest Stat went out and I tried to fix it myself but couldn’t figure it out. Called HEP and they gave me a time frame of 1:00pm-6:00pm same day. They called me back at 5:00pm to let me know it would be around 7:00pm. I was 2 days with no A/C so waiting an extra hour wasn’t really an issue for me. Steve showed up and gave me a solution to my problem within 20 minutes, but he also temporarily fixed my unit Until I could get a new thermostat unit because the stat I had was faulty. He also walked me through some basic maintenance I could perform to help my HVAC run smoothly. Steve was Professional, honest and friendly! Finding that trio is almost impossible this day and age. All in all Steve is the Bob Ross of professionalism and deserves recognition for his craft. Thank you!

The guys from HEP did a great job installing my Carrier HVAC unit. They took their time and made sure everything was done right. They asked me several times if I thought everything looked good throughout the install. There will be a inspection technician that will come out to do a follow-up to make sure the job was done properly, check the unit, and make sure the thermostat is working correctly. Everyone that I talked to from HEP was friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend using this company. Thank you for your service! Jody Technician came out the next day and checked the unit and all the work performed. All employees seem to care about the customers.

Elevating Home Comfort in Decherd With Advanced Thermostat Upgrades by HEP Company

Decherd enjoys the charm of a four-season climate—refreshing springs, humid summers, crisp autumns, and occasionally bracing winters. While this variety is a delight for residents, it places significant demands on heating and air conditioning systems. Maintaining ideal indoor temperatures year-round depends on more than reliable furnaces and air conditioners; it hinges on the device that commands them. By focusing on professional thermostat upgrades, HEP company empowers homeowners in Decherd to experience superior comfort, greater energy efficiency, and smarter control over their living environments.

Why Thermostat Upgrades Matter

Decherd’s Climate Realities Call for Precision

  1. Hot, muggy summer afternoons can strain cooling systems.
  2. Winter nights may see sudden temperature dips, triggering round-the-clock heating.
  3. Shoulder seasons often fluctuate wildly, making manual thermostat adjustments a daily chore.

A legacy thermostat—especially an older mercury or basic digital model—offers little granular control. Short cycling, temperature swings, and unnecessary energy consumption are common. Upgrading the thermostat eliminates these inefficiencies by syncing HVAC output to real-time conditions and daily routines.

The Expanding Role of Modern Thermostats

Modern thermostats have evolved from simple on-off switches to intelligent hubs. Key capabilities include:

  • Learning algorithms that adapt to occupants’ schedules.
  • Remote programming through smartphones or tablets.
  • Integration with humidity control, zoning dampers, and even air purification equipment.
  • Energy-use reporting that highlights savings opportunities.

In short, the thermostat has become the brain of the entire heating and air conditioning ecosystem.

HEP Company’s Approach to Thermostat Upgrades

Assessment and Custom Recommendation

Every project begins with a thorough audit:

  • Evaluating the age and type of existing HVAC equipment.
  • Measuring home square footage, insulation levels, and duct layout.
  • Identifying occupants’ day-to-day patterns—working hours, sleeping routines, vacation schedules.

This data guides HEP technicians toward recommending the ideal thermostat model.

Seamless Integration With Existing HVAC Systems

The performance of a new thermostat is only as strong as its connection to furnaces, heat pumps, or air handlers. HEP specialists confirm:

  • Voltage compatibility (low-voltage vs. line-voltage).
  • Availability of requisite control wires, including common “C” wires.
  • Correct staging for single-stage, two-stage, or variable-speed equipment.

Ensuring Compatibility and Safety

Before any installation:

  • Electrical circuits are de-energized and tested.
  • Old mercury thermostats are handled per environmental guidelines.
  • Firmware versions are verified to minimize software conflicts.

By addressing these details, HEP eliminates risks of short circuits, data loss, or communication failures.

Types of Thermostat Upgrades Offered by HEP

Smart Wi-Fi Thermostats

These models connect to home Wi-Fi networks, giving residents full control from an app or web portal. Advantages include:

  • Real-time alerts for temperature anomalies.
  • Geofencing that triggers comfort settings when occupants approach home.
  • Detailed usage analytics that translate kilowatt-hours and BTUs into dollars saved.

Programmable Digital Thermostats

Where Wi-Fi connectivity is unnecessary, a programmable digital thermostat still delivers substantial gains:

  • 7-day, 5-2, or 5-1-1 scheduling options.
  • Large backlit displays for easy reading.
  • Temperature accuracy within ±1°F, reducing overshoot.

Zoning and Multi-Stage Controllers

For larger homes or residences with additions, a single thermostat may not suffice. Zoning solutions allow separate temperature setpoints in:

  • Basements vs. upper levels.
  • Sunrooms or bonus rooms prone to heat gain.
  • In-law suites operating on different hours from main living spaces.

A multi-stage controller then orchestrates equipment modulation, trimming run times and elevating comfort.

Energy Efficiency and Cost Savings

How Upgraded Thermostats Lower Utility Bills

  1. Optimized Schedules: Heating and cooling intensify only during occupancy, not at 3 a.m. when everyone is asleep.
  2. Adaptive Recovery: The system learns how long it takes to reach setpoint, starting earlier but running shorter overall.
  3. Peak Demand Avoidance: Smart thermostats can reduce load during high-rate periods, shaving dollars off monthly bills.

Positive Environmental Impact

Reduced fossil-fuel consumption and electrical draw translate to:

  • Fewer greenhouse-gas emissions.
  • Longer lifecycle for HVAC equipment, deferring replacement waste.

For eco-conscious families, a thermostat upgrade aligns lifestyle with sustainability goals.

Improved Comfort and Indoor Air Quality

Precise Temperature Control

Traditional thermostats may allow temperature swing ranges of 2–4°F. Advanced models cut the swing to less than 1°F, eliminating annoying drafts and hot-cold cycles.

Humidity Management

Some smart thermostats interface with whole-house humidifiers or dehumidifiers. Benefits include:

  • Lower relative humidity in summer, preventing mold growth.
  • Added moisture in winter, easing dry skin and static electricity.

Combined with accurate temperature regulation, residents feel comfortable at lower heat setpoints, further cutting energy use.

Key Features Decherd Homeowners Prioritize

Remote Connectivity

In a city where families balance work commutes and weekend getaways, lasting comfort depends on control from anywhere. Remote connectivity allows:

  • Pre-cooling before returning from day trips to Tims Ford Lake.
  • Switching to energy-saving mode during unplanned overnights away.

Learning Algorithms and Automation

Smart thermostats memorize routine:

  • Wake-up time → automatic morning warm-up.
  • Workday departure → setback temperatures.
  • Evening arrival → cozy living rooms ready to relax.

Automation eliminates repetitive manual adjustments, making life simpler.

The HEP Upgrade Process Step by Step

  1. Home Evaluation
    • Detailed inspection of equipment, wiring, and control boards.
  2. Model Selection
    • Presentation of feature sets, interface designs, and optional accessories.
  3. Installation
    • Disconnection of power, removal of old thermostat, secure mounting, wire labeling, and connection.
  4. Configuration

  • Zoning dampers respond instantly.

Preventive care averts surprise malfunctions on the hottest or coldest days.

Hidden Benefits Beyond Temperature Control

Enhanced Equipment Longevity

Every furnace or air-conditioner cycle contributes to mechanical wear—from compressor startups to blower motor rotations. By orchestrating shorter, well-timed cycles, an upgraded thermostat can:

  • Reduce motor starts and stops by several hundred per season.
  • Maintain steadier coil temperatures, protecting refrigerant components.
  • Decrease heat-exchanger stress, preventing premature cracking.

Extending the lifespan of major HVAC assets safeguards household budgets and keeps discarded equipment out of landfills.

Data-Driven Home Management

Modern thermostats function as information centers, collecting granular data on:

  • Run-time minutes per hour.
  • Outdoor temperature correlations.
  • Humidity swing trends.

Aggregated into intuitive charts, this information reveals leak points, insulation weaknesses, or window inefficiencies. Homeowners can prioritize envelope upgrades with hard numbers rather than guesswork, leading to smarter capital improvements.

Seasonal Programming Tips for Decherd Residents

Spring

  • Activate pollen-mode or enhanced ventilation features to purge allergens after heavy blooms.
  • Schedule wider setback ranges during mild days to leverage natural outdoor temperatures.

Summer

  1. Set daytime cooling at 78°F while the house is empty.
  2. Employ humidity thresholds—start dehumidification when relative humidity exceeds 55%.
  3. Enable gradual pre-cooling two hours before bedtime to avoid compressor surges.

Autumn

  • Use adaptive recovery to warm the house gently on crisp mornings, avoiding high-power furnace blasts.
  • Reduce overnight setpoints progressively as temperatures decline, giving the body time to acclimate and saving energy.

Winter

  • Keep heat set at 68°F during occupied hours and 62–64°F while sleeping.
  • Pair a whole-house humidifier with 35–40% relative humidity to feel warmer at lower temperatures.
  • Use holiday-mode scheduling when traveling to maintain freeze protection without excessive consumption.

By fine-tuning schedules each season, families capture maximum comfort and efficiency throughout the year.

Common Myths About Smart Thermostats

  • Myth: “They require constant Wi-Fi to operate.”
Reality: Core heating and cooling commands run locally; Wi-Fi only enhances remote access and updates.

  • Myth: “Programming is too complicated for non-tech users.”
Reality: Guided setup wizards, voice controls, and intuitive apps streamline scheduling in minutes.

  • Myth: “Savings are negligible in smaller homes.”
Reality: Even a 500-square-foot apartment benefits from reduced stand-by operation and more accurate temperature sensing.

  • Myth: “Smart thermostats invade privacy with cameras.”
Reality: Most models rely solely on temperature, humidity, and motion sensors—no video recording hardware present.

Dispelling these misconceptions helps homeowners embrace technology with confidence.

Safety and Compliance Considerations

Electrical Compatibility

Though most modern HVAC systems use 24-volt circuits, older baseboard heaters and specialty units may require line-voltage thermostats. Attempting to install a low-voltage smart thermostat on a high-voltage circuit risks:

  • Blown transformers.
  • Fire hazards.
  • Voided manufacturer warranties.

HEP ensures the right match for every application.

Code and Regulation Adherence

Local codes in Franklin County dictate specific wiring practices, labeling, and mercury disposal. HEP handles:

  • Proper recycling routes for mercury bulbs.
  • Secure mounting per stud spacing requirements.
  • Wire nut and junction box standards for hidden splices.

Homeowners gain peace of mind that upgrades are legal and safe.

Future-Proofing the Home

Voice Control Integration

The rise of voice assistants means thermostats should respond to:

  • Simple commands like “set temperature to 72 degrees.”
  • Scene triggers such as “goodnight” routines that also shut lights and lock doors.

HEP configures cross-device communication protocols—Zigbee, Z-Wave, or Thread—to keep homes agile as technology progresses.

Smart Home Ecosystem Synergy

Modern thermostats can talk to:

  • Smart vents that redirect airflow based on occupancy sensors.
  • Lighting systems that dim or brighten in tandem with temperature changes.
  • Security platforms that switch HVAC to eco-mode when alarms are armed “away.”

By integrating these components, homeowners orchestrate comprehensive energy and comfort strategies.
