What our customers say

My HVAC system went down on a late Saturday night and i called HEP right away. They were calm and friendly on the phone, which allowed for us to get a tech out to my home. Justin came to my house at 7pm and did not leave until the problem was solved in every aspect of my issue at 11:30pm. I currently have a pregnant wife and he understood we needed to get air moving again. We worked late into the night to make sure we could have cool flowing air for the night. Once the job was completed for the day, he came back a second day to install new wiring within the home for the thermostat to the HVAC. He found and fixed previous issues from the prior homeowner and left my home better than how he found it. I am extremely appreciative of Justin and if you call HEP around the Knoxville area, I will request him in a heartbeat if I ever have any more issues and I think you should to. Thank you, Justin for your help and expertise.

My nest Stat went out and I tried to fix it myself but couldn’t figure it out. Called HEP and they gave me a time frame of 1:00pm-6:00pm same day. They called me back at 5:00pm to let me know it would be around 7:00pm. I was 2 days with no A/C so waiting an extra hour wasn’t really an issue for me. Steve showed up and gave me a solution to my problem within 20 minutes, but he also temporarily fixed my unit Until I could get a new thermostat unit because the stat I had was faulty. He also walked me through some basic maintenance I could perform to help my HVAC run smoothly. Steve was Professional, honest and friendly! Finding that trio is almost impossible this day and age. All in all Steve is the Bob Ross of professionalism and deserves recognition for his craft. Thank you!

I contracted with HEP to install a new HVAC system. The one they put in is an American Standard, which gets good ratings online. It is gas heat/electric air. Charlie and Avi removed the old unit, installed the new unit. got everything wired up, installed a new thermostat (old one was problematic), and hauled away the old HVAC unit. Very cool, very professional. I now have heat working correctly for the first time since March.

The Heating and Air Conditioning Landscape in Corryton

Residents of Corryton enjoy the charm of rolling hills and four distinct seasons, yet this beauty comes with temperature swings that keep heating and cooling systems working year-round. A reliable, precise thermostat becomes the brain of every HVAC system, telling furnaces and air conditioners exactly when to cycle on or off. For many households, however, this crucial component is stuck in the past—limited to a simple dial or toggle that offers little insight, efficiency, or comfort control. That is where HEP steps in, providing expert thermostat upgrades tailored to the unique climate demands and lifestyle preferences of Corryton homeowners.

Understanding the Importance of Thermostat Upgrades in Corryton

A modern thermostat does more than read the room temperature. It orchestrates energy usage, comfort levels, and long-term equipment health. HEP technicians emphasize that upgrading a thermostat can yield three fundamental benefits for Corryton residents:

  • Enhanced comfort through precise temperature modulation

  • Prolonged HVAC life due to reduced short-cycling and unnecessary runtime

In a community that experiences humid summers above 90 °F and frosty winter nights dipping below freezing, trustworthy thermostat control is not a luxury—it's essential.

Signs Your Home Needs a Thermostat Upgrade

Homeowners often tolerate inconsistent room temperatures or high energy bills without realizing the thermostat is the culprit. Recognizing the warning signs speeds up the path to a solution:

  • Rooms feeling warmer or colder than the setting indicates
  • Frequent on-off cycling of the furnace or air conditioner
  • Outdated analog or mercury-bulb thermostats incapable of scheduling
  • Noticeable spikes in utility costs despite routine HVAC maintenance
  • Lack of remote control or smart-home integration options

If one or more of these issues sound familiar, a professional assessment from HEP can confirm whether a thermostat upgrade will resolve them.

  • Firmware Updates: Receives new functionality over time without hardware replacements.

HEP technicians ensure these features are configured correctly during installation, preventing miscommunication between devices or user frustration.

The HEP Thermostat Upgrade Process

A smooth upgrade involves more than swapping one unit for another. HEP follows a step-by-step procedure designed to guarantee accuracy, safety, and optimal performance.

1. Personalized Consultation

A technician evaluates the existing HVAC setup, wiring compatibility, and household needs. This includes:

  • Inspecting furnace or air-handler control boards
  • Checking voltage requirements (24V or line-voltage)
  • Discussing lifestyle patterns and technology preferences

2. Model Selection

Based on the consultation, the technician recommends thermostats that align with system capabilities and homeowner priorities—whether that means simple programmability or full smart-home synergy.

3. Professional Installation

HEP handles the delicate wiring changes, mounting, and system configuration. Technicians:

  • Label and transfer each control wire to prevent mix-ups
  • Level and secure the thermostat base to the wall
  • Connect to Wi-Fi and perform initial firmware updates (smart models)

4. System Testing

Before departure, the installer runs heating and cooling cycles to confirm:

  • Correct stage activation for single-stage or multi-stage equipment
  • Proper communication with heat pumps, auxiliary heat, or variable-speed fans
  • Consistent temperature readings across different modes

5. User Orientation

Homeowners receive a guided tour of the new thermostat interface, plus tips on:

  • Creating schedules to match daily routines
  • Interpreting energy reporting screens
  • Setting vacation or away modes for extended trips

Every step is documented, ensuring a reference for future adjustments.

How Thermostat Upgrades Promote Energy Efficiency in Corryton Homes

Energy efficiency is a shared priority across the Corryton community. By optimizing temperature control, a thermostat upgrade:

  • Reduces heating and cooling runtime, trimming electricity or gas consumption
  • Minimizes temperature overshoot thanks to precise sensors, preventing wasted energy
  • Encourages behavioral adjustments through real-time usage feedback

When combined with routine HVAC maintenance, these improvements translate into a greener footprint and smaller utility bills—goals that resonate in a region proud of its natural surroundings.

Comfort Improvements You Can Feel Immediately

Beyond saving energy, upgraded thermostats refine the indoor experience in several tangible ways:

  • Balanced temperatures with fewer hot or cold spots
  • Quieter HVAC operation due to fewer abrupt starts and stops
  • Customized climate zones for family members with different comfort preferences
  • Consistent humidity control when paired with compatible equipment

Residents quickly notice that rooms stay closer to the target temperature, even during sudden weather shifts common to East Tennessee.

Compatibility Considerations for Older HVAC Systems

Some Corryton homes still rely on legacy furnaces or air conditioners. HEP technicians examine whether a new thermostat will integrate smoothly. Key considerations include:

  • Presence of a C-wire to supply continuous power for smart models
  • Multistage versus single-stage furnace logic
  • Heat pump configuration with auxiliary electric heat
  • Boiler or radiant floor heating control needs

If wiring gaps exist, HEP can often install a power extender kit or run new low-voltage lines without invasive construction, ensuring modern functionality doesn’t require a complete HVAC overhaul.

Integrating Thermostat Upgrades with Home Automation

For households already equipped with smart lighting, security cameras, or voice assistants, the thermostat can unite these systems into a cohesive network. HEP helps coordinate integrations such as:

  • Triggering lights and temperature changes simultaneously upon arrival home
  • Automating away settings when a security system arms
  • Linking window sensors to pause HVAC operation if a window is left open

These automations heighten convenience and drive additional energy conservation.

Energy-Saving Tips After Your Upgrade

An efficient thermostat is powerful, but homeowner habits amplify its benefits. Simple strategies include:

  • Setting cooling temperatures no lower than 78 °F in summer when at home
  • Dropping heating setpoints to 68 °F in winter daytime and 60 – 62 °F at night
  • Utilizing vacation mode for absences longer than 24 hours
  • Pairing the system with ceiling fans to improve air distribution
  • Replacing HVAC filters regularly to maintain airflow and accuracy

By following these guidelines, Corryton residents unlock the full potential of their new thermostat while ensuring their HVAC system operates under ideal conditions.

The Role of Accurate Sensors in Thermostat Performance

Modern thermostats rely on sensitive thermistors and infrared sensors that detect room temperature changes within fractions of a degree. Accurate sensing delivers:

  • Smooth ramp-ups rather than abrupt temperature swings
  • Reduced short-cycling, protecting compressor and blower longevity
  • Better alignment between displayed and actual temperatures

HEP technicians calibrate each thermostat during installation to offset any slight variances caused by wall location, direct sunlight, or nearby electronics, ensuring on-screen numbers truly mirror indoor conditions.

Addressing Common Myths About Thermostat Upgrades

Misconceptions can hinder homeowners from embracing modern HVAC controls. HEP dispels several myths:

  • “Turning the thermostat up or down quickly forces the system to work faster.”
HVAC equipment operates at a consistent rate; drastic changes only extend runtime.

  • “Leaving the thermostat at the same temperature all day is more efficient.”
Scheduled setbacks reduce energy consumption by limiting active heating or cooling during unoccupied hours.
