What our customers say

I contracted with HEP to install a new HVAC system. The one they put in is an American Standard, which gets good ratings online. It is gas heat/electric air. Charlie and Avi removed the old unit, installed the new unit. got everything wired up, installed a new thermostat (old one was problematic), and hauled away the old HVAC unit. Very cool, very professional. I now have heat working correctly for the first time since March.

My HVAC system went down on a late Saturday night and i called HEP right away. They were calm and friendly on the phone, which allowed for us to get a tech out to my home. Justin came to my house at 7pm and did not leave until the problem was solved in every aspect of my issue at 11:30pm. I currently have a pregnant wife and he understood we needed to get air moving again. We worked late into the night to make sure we could have cool flowing air for the night. Once the job was completed for the day, he came back a second day to install new wiring within the home for the thermostat to the HVAC. He found and fixed previous issues from the prior homeowner and left my home better than how he found it. I am extremely appreciative of Justin and if you call HEP around the Knoxville area, I will request him in a heartbeat if I ever have any more issues and I think you should to. Thank you, Justin for your help and expertise.

My nest Stat went out and I tried to fix it myself but couldn’t figure it out. Called HEP and they gave me a time frame of 1:00pm-6:00pm same day. They called me back at 5:00pm to let me know it would be around 7:00pm. I was 2 days with no A/C so waiting an extra hour wasn’t really an issue for me. Steve showed up and gave me a solution to my problem within 20 minutes, but he also temporarily fixed my unit Until I could get a new thermostat unit because the stat I had was faulty. He also walked me through some basic maintenance I could perform to help my HVAC run smoothly. Steve was Professional, honest and friendly! Finding that trio is almost impossible this day and age. All in all Steve is the Bob Ross of professionalism and deserves recognition for his craft. Thank you!

The guys from HEP did a great job installing my Carrier HVAC unit. They took their time and made sure everything was done right. They asked me several times if I thought everything looked good throughout the install. There will be a inspection technician that will come out to do a follow-up to make sure the job was done properly, check the unit, and make sure the thermostat is working correctly. Everyone that I talked to from HEP was friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend using this company. Thank you for your service! Jody Technician came out the next day and checked the unit and all the work performed. All employees seem to care about the customers.

Josh Crawford came by today for a spring inspection of our HVAC unit, and to help with some smart thermostat issues. He did a great and thorough job, and was very personable. He suggested we add a surge protector to our unit to protect our compressor, and made an excellent case for that without being pushy or applying undue sales pressure.

Why Thermostat Upgrades Matter for Blaine Homeowners

Climate in Blaine and Its Impact on HVAC Control

Residents of Blaine know that temperature swings can be dramatic. A frigid front can blow in overnight, only to be replaced by unseasonably high daytime readings a few days later. These fluctuations place stress on heating and cooling equipment and expose the limitations of outdated thermostats that lack precision programming or learning abilities.

Key Reasons to Prioritize an Upgrade

  • More accurate temperature readings reduce unnecessary HVAC cycling
  • Programmable schedules match heating and cooling output to daily routines

  • Enhanced humidity management improves indoor air quality
  • Integration with mobile apps delivers real-time control from anywhere

By investing in a modern thermostat through HEP, Blaine homeowners gain the tools they need to respond quickly to the city’s capricious weather, maintain year-round comfort, and reduce strain on critical HVAC components.

Benefits of Professional Thermostat Upgrades by HEP

Upgrading a thermostat is more complex than swapping out batteries and mounting a new faceplate. It involves compatibility checks, precise wiring, calibration, and educating the homeowner on new features. HEP delivers a comprehensive service package that maximizes performance from day one.

Enhanced Energy Efficiency

A properly installed smart or programmable thermostat can cut energy usage by automatically scaling back heating and cooling when the home is unoccupied. HEP technicians fine-tune setback schedules and integrate occupancy sensors or geofencing features to ensure savings without sacrificing comfort.

Precision Comfort Control

Temperature swings of just two degrees can feel significant in a draft-prone room. HEP calibrates every thermostat to deliver accurate readings, mitigating hot and cold spots. Zoned systems are optimized so that each area receives tailored heating and cooling, eliminating guesswork.

Integration With Modern HVAC Systems

New high-efficiency furnaces and air conditioners often include advanced features such as variable-speed blowers or multi-stage compressors. HEP ensures the selected thermostat supports these technologies, unlocking higher SEER ratings and AFUE efficiencies. The result: smoother operation, reduced noise, and extended equipment lifespan.

Added Smart Home Functionality

Many Blaine homeowners are gradually upgrading to smart lights, security systems, and voice assistants. HEP helps pair thermostats with existing smart ecosystems, enabling voice commands, automated routines, and consolidated energy monitoring through a single dashboard.

Types of Thermostats Available Through HEP

Each home has unique needs based on occupancy patterns, insulation quality, and HVAC system design. HEP offers a curated range of thermostats to suit every situation.

Smart Wi-Fi Thermostats

These devices connect to the home’s wireless network and provide robust features:

  • Learning algorithms that study daily behavior and build custom schedules
  • Geofencing for automatic setbacks when all occupants leave the property
  • Weather response, adjusting setpoints ahead of forecasted temperature changes
  • Voice assistant integration for hands-free control

HEP evaluates household needs and recommends the optimal thermostat type, ensuring seamless integration and performance.

Step-by-Step Overview of HEP’s Thermostat Upgrade Service

A structured installation process guarantees consistent results across every Blaine residence.

Home Assessment and Compatibility Check

  1. Verify existing HVAC equipment (furnace, air conditioner, heat pump, ductless system).
  2. Inspect wiring and low-voltage terminals for capacity and integrity.
  3. Evaluate Wi-Fi strength near the planned thermostat location for smart models.
  4. Discuss comfort goals, scheduling preferences, and future plans (e.g., zoning upgrades).

Safe Removal of Existing Unit

  • Power to the HVAC system is shut off at the breaker to prevent shorts.
  • Old thermostat cover and base are removed carefully to preserve drywall.
  • Legacy wiring labels are applied to avoid confusion during reconnection.

Expert Installation and Wiring

  • New thermostat mounting plate is leveled and anchored.
  • Line voltage or low-voltage wires are inserted into color-coded terminals.
  • C-wire adapters or power extenders are installed if required for smart models.
  • Firmware updates are applied to the thermostat before final mounting.

Common HVAC Issues Resolved by Upgrading the Thermostat

A thermostat upgrade can address more than comfort complaints—it can mitigate broader system inefficiencies.

Short Cycling

Frequent on-off cycling wastes energy and accelerates component wear. Modern thermostats use adaptive algorithms and cycle rate adjustments to maintain a stable temperature band, easing stress on compressors and blowers.

Uneven Temperatures

Draft-prone rooms or south-facing spaces can overheat or over-cool. Zoning features, external temperature sensors, and room-by-room setpoints help distribute conditioned air more evenly.

High Utility Bills

When heating and cooling expenses spike, an outdated thermostat is often to blame. Upgraded units capture precise data, revealing wasteful habits and providing actionable insights to curb energy consumption.

Outdated Controls

Mercury switches and early digital models lack the granular control required by modern high-efficiency furnaces and variable-speed air handlers. Upgrading ensures full compatibility, unlocking advertised performance ratings.

Special Considerations for Blaine Residences

Cold Winters and Efficient Heat Management

Blaine frequently experiences sub-freezing temperatures, making dependable heating vital. A smart thermostat paired with a high-efficiency furnace or heat pump can:

  • Activate auxiliary heat only when strictly necessary
  • Utilize outdoor temperature data for anticipatory pre-heating
  • Keep pipes safe from freezing in seldom-used areas via low-temp alerts

Humidity Control During Warm Months

High humidity can be as uncomfortable as high temperatures. Thermostats with built-in humidity sensors monitor indoor moisture levels and trigger dehumidification settings in the air conditioner, maintaining a healthier indoor environment.

Remote Cabin or Vacation Property Solutions

Many residents own secondary cabins near Blaine’s lakes and wooded areas. Smart thermostats allow remote temperature monitoring, preventing frozen pipes in winter and controlling humidity during spring thaws, all without on-site visits.

Energy Saving Strategies After Your Thermostat Upgrade

Installing a new thermostat is the first step; using it effectively maximizes returns.

Optimal Scheduling Techniques

  • Weekday schedules: Reduce heating or cooling 6–8°F during work hours.
  • Night setback: Drop heat a few degrees or raise cooling temps while sleeping.
  • Weekend variations: Customize schedules to match relaxed routines.

Leveraging Geofencing and Remote Access

  • Enable location-based triggers to automatically shift into eco mode once all smartphones leave the property.
  • Override schedules remotely when unexpected plans change.
  • Monitor current indoor temperature and humidity while traveling.

Regular Maintenance and Filter Alerts

  • Follow on-screen reminders to replace filters, improving airflow and efficiency.
  • Schedule seasonal HVAC tune-ups prompted by usage metrics.
  • Check energy reports monthly to identify abnormal consumption patterns.

The Role of Proper Thermostat Placement

Even the most advanced thermostat cannot perform optimally if installed in the wrong location.

Avoiding Drafts and Heat Sources

  • Keep the device away from windows, exterior doors, and drafty areas.
  • Avoid placement near vents or radiant heaters that can skew temperature readings.
  • Shield from direct sunlight to prevent false high readings.

Height and Location Guidelines

  • Mount the thermostat approximately five feet from the floor, centered on an interior wall.
  • Place it in a frequently occupied room to reflect primary living conditions.
  • Maintain clear airflow; avoid bookshelves or curtains that obstruct circulation.

Impact on Sensor Accuracy

Precision sensors monitor minute variations in temperature and humidity. Poor placement introduces artificial fluctuations, causing the HVAC system to work harder or shut off prematurely. HEP technicians follow industry best practices to safeguard sensor performance.

Preparing for Your Appointment: Homeowner Checklist

A few simple steps ensure a smooth installation experience.

  • Clear furniture or décor around the existing thermostat for easy access.
  • Note the home’s Wi-Fi network name and password for smart model setup.
  • Identify any past HVAC issues to discuss with the technician.
  • Ensure pets are secured away from the workspace for safety.
  • Review desired heating and cooling schedules to expedite programming.

Long-Term Value of Investing in a Modern Thermostat
