We purchased our home 02/2024. During tour of home we identified issue with 1 of outside unit, submitted offer with request seller have HVAC looked at and identify issues. Was informed no leaks visible running properly yet freon was low & refilled, we believed the seller that there was no further issue and continued with sale. We had no issue with remain of winter or summer heat/cool, yet was shocked at electric bill each month but attributed to house being much larger than prior. Fast forward to 01/2025 and the extreme cold. We had another HVAC company come service unit as home always felt "cold" came to learn there was a wire that was attached in wrong position which made the unit run in A/C mode year round. Once this was fixed it smelt like the house was going to burn down and we finally had heat !!! Forward to 04/2025 we had that company come out and service both our units. We informed of hx of HVAC; completed service on units, learned the upstairs unit functioning normally, but main unit was low on Freon and LEAKING & had indicated of it was low on Freon prior it was leaking than !!! He said it would eventually turn into ice block and need to replace, well low n behold the next day it was an ice block...THIS IS WHERE HEP comes in. We contacted HEP because they installed our last HVAC at our last home as we got best deal from them. Rob came out, he had read the notes of what is going on, as soon as he pulled the panel, up an ice block still. Rob stayed all day working to get us approved, especially when we informed the girl who does the financing we wanted to go through a particular finance company, she did not and submitted to multiple others including a "lease to own" at over $300/mth for ??? Years, NO !!! We don't have that bad of credit, just submit to this company, nope she couldn't do that...Well Rob got on the phone to Marissa; informed her of situation. She contacted the said finance company and within mins yes mins she had us approved for what we needed & apparently plus and with a much more reasonable monthly payment to get a new HVAC unit installed and for the NEXT DAY !!! Yes the next day...Rob had indicated we will be extremely happy with the unit and will save us $$$ starting day 1... Brandon & Tyler came out next day and put in our new unit, both were professional, approachable, friendly and always willing to answer questions. Can't wait for a much more comfortable cooling and heating of our home & save some $$$. Rob is coming back out on Monday to look at our 2nd unit to be sure it is in optimal working condition and advise & provide estimate for it. We are soo thankful and grateful for Rob & getting this done for us !!!

Common Heating Issues Faced by Petros Homeowners

Short Cycling

Short cycling occurs when a furnace or heat pump turns on and off frequently without completing a heating cycle. Consequences include premature wear, increased utility consumption, and inconsistent indoor temperatures.

Ignition or Pilot Problems

Older gas furnaces rely on standing pilot lights; newer models use electronic igniters. In either case, faulty ignition mechanisms can leave a home without heat.

Blower Motor Failures

The blower motor circulates warm air through ductwork. A malfunction leads to stagnant indoor air and uneven heating.

Thermostat Malfunctions

Digital and analog thermostats may lose calibration over time. Incorrect temperature readings prevent a system from responding properly to indoor conditions.

Clogged Filters and Restricted Airflow

Filters laden with dust impede airflow, forcing equipment to work harder. Over time, the extra stress can cause overheating and component burnout.

Types of Heating Systems Serviced by HEP Company

HEP technicians receive cross-training on the major categories of residential and light commercial heating equipment.

  • Gas furnaces (single-stage, two-stage, and modulating)
  • Electric furnaces and air handlers
  • Heat pumps, including dual-fuel configurations
  • Packaged HVAC units common in smaller homes and retrofits
  • Ductless mini-split heat pumps that provide zoned comfort
  • Boilers, both hydronic baseboard and radiant floor systems

Special Considerations for Each System Type

Gas furnaces require combustion analysis to ensure safe carbon monoxide levels. Electric models must pass current draw tests, while heat pumps benefit from refrigerant pressure checks. Mini-splits need careful line-set inspections to prevent refrigerant leaks.

The HEP Heat Repair Process

Step 1: Initial Assessment

Upon arrival, the technician conducts:

  • A visual equipment inspection
  • Digital thermometer readings at supply and return vents
  • Voltage and amperage tests at key electrical points
  • Combustion or refrigerant pressure analysis (based on system type)

Step 2: Problem Isolation

Data from the initial assessment drives the next move. Technicians cross-reference error codes, component readings, and physical observations to pinpoint root causes.

Step 3: Targeted Repair

Repairs may involve:

  • Replacing igniters, flame sensors, or pilot assemblies
  • Cleaning burner orifices and heat exchangers
  • Lubricating or swapping blower bearings and belts
  • Flushing condensate lines and traps
  • Sealing refrigerant leaks and re-charging to manufacturer specification

Step 4: System Re-Calibration

After component replacement, settings are calibrated. This can include gas valve pressure adjustments, thermostat reprogramming, or airflow balancing by resizing dampers.

Step 5: Performance Verification

A final cycle test confirms that:

  • Supply air temperature meets design criteria
  • System starts and stops according to thermostat commands
  • Electrical draw stays within manufacturer tolerances
  • Safety devices—such as limit switches—activate properly

Benefits of Timely Heat Repair

Increased Equipment Lifespan

Proactive repairs reduce stress on motors, compressors, and heat exchangers.

Lower Utility Bills

An optimized heating system consumes less fuel or electricity.

Enhanced Indoor Air Quality

Clean filters, balanced humidity, and correct combustion reduce allergen and pollutant buildup.

Consistent Comfort Levels

No more hot-and-cold spots or unpredictable temperature swings.

Peace of Mind

Knowing that carbon monoxide levels and electrical connections are within safe parameters provides reassurance during peak heating season.

Energy Efficiency Considerations in Petros Residences

Insulation and Air Sealing

Even the most efficient furnace struggles in a poorly insulated home. Upgrading attic insulation and sealing drafty windows complements professional heat repair work.

Programmable and Smart Thermostats

Modern control devices adjust temperature setpoints automatically, aligning HVAC operation with daily routines.

Zoning Strategies

Larger homes benefit from multi-zone systems that reduce energy in unused areas while prioritizing occupied rooms.

Filter Upgrade Options

High-MERV filters improve air quality but require careful blower sizing. HEP technicians verify compatibility to prevent airflow restriction.

Preventive Maintenance Tips

  • Replace or clean air filters every one to three months
  • Keep supply and return vents unobstructed by furniture or drapes
  • Monitor furnace or heat pump sounds for unusual rattles
  • Trim vegetation at least two feet away from outdoor units
  • Schedule blower compartment cleaning before heating season
  • Test carbon monoxide alarms monthly and replace batteries annually

Seasonal Checklist for Petros Homeowners

Before the first frost:

  • Inspect flue pipes for corrosion or separation
  • Verify thermostat programming for heating mode
  • Clean humidifier pads (if installed)
  • Ensure condensate drains are clear of debris

Addressing Air Conditioning Heat Repair in Dual-Purpose Systems

Many Petros homes rely on heat pumps or packaged HVAC units that both heat and cool. Repair protocols consider refrigeration cycles, reversing valves, and defrost controls. A malfunction in these components can simultaneously affect summer cooling and winter heating.

Reversing Valve Considerations

Low ambient temperatures make proper valve operation crucial. Technicians test coil voltage and refrigerant flow to confirm correct heat-cool changeover.

Defrost Control Board Checks

Frost accumulation on outdoor coils can spell trouble during heating mode. Accurate sensor readings prevent energy waste and compressor damage.

HEP Company’s Commitment to Safety

Combustion Safety

Gas appliances require specific air-fuel ratios. HEP technicians carry combustion analyzers that measure oxygen, carbon monoxide, and stack temperature to ensure safe operation.

Electrical Integrity

Loose connections spark fires and reduce efficiency. Routine torque checks, wire inspection, and replacement of worn terminals maintain electrical reliability.

Ventilation Verification

Proper venting prevents exhaust gases from entering living spaces. HEP evaluates vent sizing, slope, and termination points to meet local code requirements.

Indoor Air Quality Enhancements Offered Alongside Heat Repair

  • Whole-house humidifiers that protect woodwork and respiratory health during dry winters
  • UV germicidal lights installed in the air handler to neutralize microbial growth
  • Media air cleaners that capture finer particulates than standard pleated filters

Matching IAQ Products to Heating System Design

A high-efficiency furnace pairs well with sealed combustion and advanced filtration, while a ductless heat pump may benefit from stand-alone air-cleaning solutions. HEP technicians evaluate each scenario accordingly.
