What our customers say

On one of the hottest days this summer, my AC went out. I called HEP because they have provided excellent service in the past. They did not disappoint. They responded by scheduling a visit the next day! Patrick showed up and was friendly & knowledgeable. He checked everything! He didn't just stop at the first sign of cool air. He explained several options and didn't pressure me to go with a complete replacement although that may have to be an option for the future. I'll have more time to save for it. I've recommended HEP in the past & will do so in the future. Thanks everyone! _________________ 11/6/24 Called again for a different AC issue and had the same great service. Gotta put HEP in my speed dial! Thanks again! ___________________ 3/4/2025 Used HEP again for Plumbing this time. I filled in the online form and got a call back quickly and Fernando was here within an hour from me reaching out. The ball valve had rusted out in my bathroom and he had to cut out part of the pipe to install a new one. Was all done in under an hour. Very knowledgeable, friendly & helpful young man. Thanks again!

Expert Heating and Air Conditioning Heat Repair in Hillsboro

Reliable heat repair keeps homes across Hillsboro comfortable through chilly Pacific Northwest winters and unpredictable shoulder seasons. HEP specializes in bringing underperforming furnaces, heat pumps, and hybrid systems back to peak efficiency, ensuring consistent warmth while optimizing energy use. With a deep understanding of local building codes, environmental conditions, and homeowner expectations, HEP’s technicians deliver solutions tailored to Washington County residences from the historic downtown core to newly developed neighborhoods on the city’s outskirts.

Understanding Hillsboro’s Unique Climate Challenges

Hillsboro rests in the Tualatin Valley, where cool, wet winters, occasional cold snaps, and lingering dampness all place serious demands on heating equipment. Extended shoulder seasons require systems to transition seamlessly between heating and mild cooling modes, adding wear on components that standard climates might not experience. Moisture can infiltrate ductwork, causing corrosion and mold growth, while sudden drops in temperature stress heat exchangers and condensate lines. HEP’s repair strategies incorporate these factors so homeowners receive fixes built for longevity rather than quick patches.

Common Heat Repair Issues in Washington County Homes

HEP routinely encounters recurring problem categories during service calls:

  • Ignition or pilot failures in gas furnaces leading to intermittent heat
  • Worn blower bearings causing rattling noises and airflow reduction
  • Clogged condensate drains prompting safety shutoffs in high-efficiency units
  • Refrigerant imbalances in heat pump systems hindering both heating and cooling cycles
  • Faulty limit switches that short-cycle the equipment, spiking utility bills
  • Airflow blockages from debris-filled ducts reducing system capacity

Addressing these issues promptly avoids further component degradation and keeps households safe from carbon monoxide risks or electrical faults.

HEP’s Comprehensive Heat Repair Approach

HEP follows a structured methodology designed to uncover root causes rather than treat surface symptoms. Each service visit is guided by data-driven diagnostics and robust quality standards.

Thorough Diagnostics for Precise Solutions

Technicians begin with a multi-point inspection:

  • Static pressure tests to gauge duct integrity
  • Combustion analysis for gas units, verifying correct fuel-to-air ratios
  • Infrared thermography to spot heat exchanger cracks or hot spots
  • Electrical continuity checks on motors, contactors, and control boards
  • Refrigerant charge measurement for heat pumps in accordance with manufacturer specs

This granular insight informs repair decisions, preventing guesswork and reducing repeat visits.

Quality Parts and Industry-Leading Techniques

HEP stocks OEM and high-grade aftermarket components inside mobile service vehicles, allowing same-day replacement of:

  • Igniters and flame sensors
  • Capacitors and relays
  • Variable-speed blower modules
  • Thermostatic expansion valves

Technicians apply factory-approved procedures, calibrated torque tools, and EPA-certified refrigerant handling practices, safeguarding performance and warranty compliance.

Benefits of Timely Heat Repair

Postponing service often leads to cascading failures and steeper utility expenses. Timely intervention from HEP unlocks multiple advantages.

Energy Efficiency and Lower Utility Bills

A well-tuned system operates at its designed seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) or annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE). Reduced run times and optimized combustion translate into measurable savings, especially during peak usage months when Oregon Energy Trust reports the greatest household consumption.

Prolonged System Lifespan

Components that run within manufacturer tolerance experience less friction, vibration, and heat stress. This extends the expected operational window of compressors, motors, and control boards, delaying the significant investment of full system replacement.

Indoor Air Quality Improvements

Repairing leaky ducts or malfunctioning filtration assemblies lessens dust migration and microbial growth, supporting healthier breathing environments for families and pets.

Key Components HEP Technicians Service

Heating equipment relies on a network of subsystems. Comprehensive competence across these areas allows HEP to deliver complete repair solutions.

Furnaces

From single-stage gas models in older ranch homes to modulating condensing units in modern builds, HEP services burners, inducer motors, heat exchangers, and safety circuits. Technicians carry combustion analyzers to fine-tune fuel mixtures for optimum efficiency and minimal emissions.

Heat Pumps

In temperate Hillsboro climates, air-source heat pumps offer an efficient alternative to conventional heating. HEP troubleshoots reversing valves, defrost controls, and variable-speed compressors to restore reliable bi-directional performance.

Ductwork and Ventilation

Even if the mechanical equipment is in top form, compromised ducts can waste up to 30% of heated air. HEP repairs loose connections, seals gaps with mastic, and replaces damaged flex runs to reinstate full airflow.

Thermostats and Smart Controls

Incorrect calibration or faulty wiring in control devices can mimic major system failures. HEP reconfigures programmable thermostats, integrates Wi-Fi controllers, and ensures compatibility with zoning panels for precise comfort management.

Signs Your Heating System Needs Professional Attention

Recognizing early warning indicators minimizes downtime and repair costs.

Unusual Noises

Grinding, screeching, or metallic sounds often signal motor bearing wear or blower wheel imbalance.

Uneven Temperatures

Cold spots in bedrooms or living areas suggest duct leaks, failing dampers, or undersized return paths.

Rising Energy Bills

A sudden spike without increased usage points toward poor combustion efficiency, refrigerant loss, or obstructed airflow.

Frequent Cycling

Short on/off intervals may stem from clogged filters, thermostat placement issues, or overheating heat exchangers activating limit switches.

The HEP Heat Repair Process Step by Step

Transparency underpins HEP’s service model, fostering homeowner confidence through clearly defined stages.

Initial Assessment

Technicians listen to the homeowner’s description, review maintenance history, and visually examine equipment for obvious defects such as corrosion, water stains, or loose wiring.

Detailed Inspection

Specialized instruments capture data on temperature differentials, static pressure, voltage draws, and flue gas composition, forming a baseline for performance.

Targeted Repair

Based on diagnostic results, faulty parts are removed and replaced, refrigerant circuits evacuated and recharged, or duct leaks sealed. Workmanship adheres to the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) quality installation guidelines.

Post-Repair Testing

Before concluding a visit, technicians run full heating cycles, verify system controls, measure supply and return temperatures, and provide the homeowner with a performance summary for reference.

Preventive Measures for Long-Term Performance

Repairs restore function, yet proactive upkeep sustains efficiency year after year.

Seasonal Maintenance Plans

HEP offers scheduled tune-ups that include:

  • Cleaning burners and flame sensors
  • Lubricating blower bearings
  • Tightening electrical connections
  • Inspecting heat pump defrost cycles

Regular checkups catch minor issues before they escalate.

Filter Replacement Schedules

Replacing filters every one to three months, depending on home activity and filtration grade, keeps airflow unobstructed and reduces strain on blower motors.

Duct Sealing and Insulation Upgrades

Properly sealed and insulated ducts maintain temperature consistency and minimize heat loss, particularly in unconditioned crawl spaces common to Hillsboro homes.

Sustainable Heating Solutions for Hillsboro Residents

Mindful of Oregon’s environmental initiatives, HEP integrates eco-forward practices into heat repair services.

High-Efficiency Retrofit Options

When major components verge on failure, HEP can retrofit variable-speed blower assemblies or upgrade standard capacitors to electronically commutated motors (ECMs), achieving immediate efficiency gains without full system replacement.

Eco-Friendly Refrigerants and Components

Technicians handling heat pump repairs prioritize refrigerants with lower global warming potential (GWP) and educate homeowners on long-term phaseout timelines for older substances, facilitating smoother transitions.

Why Homeowners in Hillsboro Trust HEP

Beyond technical competence, several attributes distinguish HEP within the local service landscape.
