What our customers say

We purchased our home 02/2024. During tour of home we identified issue with 1 of outside unit, submitted offer with request seller have HVAC looked at and identify issues. Was informed no leaks visible running properly yet freon was low & refilled, we believed the seller that there was no further issue and continued with sale. We had no issue with remain of winter or summer heat/cool, yet was shocked at electric bill each month but attributed to house being much larger than prior. Fast forward to 01/2025 and the extreme cold. We had another HVAC company come service unit as home always felt "cold" came to learn there was a wire that was attached in wrong position which made the unit run in A/C mode year round. Once this was fixed it smelt like the house was going to burn down and we finally had heat !!! Forward to 04/2025 we had that company come out and service both our units. We informed of hx of HVAC; completed service on units, learned the upstairs unit functioning normally, but main unit was low on Freon and LEAKING & had indicated of it was low on Freon prior it was leaking than !!! He said it would eventually turn into ice block and need to replace, well low n behold the next day it was an ice block...THIS IS WHERE HEP comes in. We contacted HEP because they installed our last HVAC at our last home as we got best deal from them. Rob came out, he had read the notes of what is going on, as soon as he pulled the panel, up an ice block still. Rob stayed all day working to get us approved, especially when we informed the girl who does the financing we wanted to go through a particular finance company, she did not and submitted to multiple others including a "lease to own" at over $300/mth for ??? Years, NO !!! We don't have that bad of credit, just submit to this company, nope she couldn't do that...Well Rob got on the phone to Marissa; informed her of situation. She contacted the said finance company and within mins yes mins she had us approved for what we needed & apparently plus and with a much more reasonable monthly payment to get a new HVAC unit installed and for the NEXT DAY !!! Yes the next day...Rob had indicated we will be extremely happy with the unit and will save us $$$ starting day 1... Brandon & Tyler came out next day and put in our new unit, both were professional, approachable, friendly and always willing to answer questions. Can't wait for a much more comfortable cooling and heating of our home & save some $$$. Rob is coming back out on Monday to look at our 2nd unit to be sure it is in optimal working condition and advise & provide estimate for it. We are soo thankful and grateful for Rob & getting this done for us !!!

Understanding Common Heating Problems in Hixson Homes

Seasonal Strains on HVAC Systems

Hixson’s winter temperatures may fluctuate dramatically, placing intense demands on heating equipment. These conditions often lead to:

  • Frequent short cycling as units struggle to match shifting outdoor temperatures
  • Excessive wear on blower motors due to continuous operation
  • Frozen condensate lines in heat pumps during severe cold snaps

Signs Your Heater Needs Professional Attention

A quick response is vital to prevent minor issues from escalating into costly breakdowns. Homeowners should request professional help when noticing:

  • Uneven room temperatures or persistent cold spots
  • Spiking utility bills without corresponding thermostat changes
  • Metallic or burning odors when the furnace cycles on
  • Unusual sounds such as rattling, banging, or whistling
  • Thermostat inaccuracies or frequent resets
  • Pilot light outages or error codes displayed on control boards

Prompt heat repair in Hixson addresses these symptoms before they compromise comfort or safety.

The HEP Heat Repair Process

Thorough Diagnostic Approach

HEP technicians begin by running a multi-point diagnostic protocol designed to identify hidden faults. Steps include:

  • Measuring intake and output temperatures to assess heat exchange efficiency
  • Examining flame characteristics for gas furnaces to confirm adequate combustion
  • Conducting voltage and amperage tests on motors, capacitors, and control boards
  • Inspecting heat exchanger surfaces for cracks or corrosion
  • Running refrigerant pressure checks on heat pumps and hybrid systems

High-Quality Parts and Industry-Leading Techniques

Only manufacturer-approved components are installed, guaranteeing optimal compatibility and longevity. Technicians use precision tools—combustion analyzers, manometers, and infrared thermometers—to verify repairs meet or exceed original specifications.

Safety and Compliance Focus

Every repair adheres to the International Residential Code (IRC) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. Before leaving a property, technicians perform:

  • Carbon monoxide leak testing with calibrated detectors
  • Verification of proper grounding and circuit protection
  • Documentation of all changes for homeowner reference

Specialized Services for Every Heating System

Gas Furnace Repair

Gas furnaces remain popular across Hixson because of their rapid heat delivery. Common service tasks include:

  • Replacing malfunctioning igniters and flame sensors
  • Adjusting gas valve pressures for peak combustion efficiency
  • Cleaning burners to eliminate soot buildup that restricts airflow

Electric Furnace and Air Handler Service

Electric heaters require different expertise. HEP resolves:

  • Failed sequencers and relays causing erratic staging
  • Burnt heating elements reducing output capacity
  • Inadequate insulation leading to heat loss inside the cabinet

Heat Pump Troubleshooting

Heat pumps work doubly hard in Tennessee’s mixed climate. Key repair areas involve:

  • Defrost control board calibration to prevent ice accumulation
  • Reversing valve replacement when stuck in cooling mode
  • Refrigerant leak detection with electronic sensors

Ductwork Inspection and Repair

Even the most efficient furnace can underperform when ducts leak or are poorly insulated. HEP offers:

  • Aeroseal or manual sealing of gaps, seams, and plenum joints
  • Rebalancing dampers to enhance airflow distribution
  • Upgrading duct insulation for crawl spaces and attics

Energy Efficiency Benefits of Prompt Heat Repair

Lower Utility Bills

Fixing faulty components—like worn blower bearings or clogged filters—improves system airflow and reduces runtime, translating into lower monthly energy costs.

Extended Equipment Lifespan

Timely repairs prevent catastrophic failures that shorten equipment life. Replacing a 40-dollar capacitor, for instance, can avert compressor burnout that requires full system replacement.

Enhanced Indoor Air Quality

Clean burners and unobstructed airflow pathways reduce particulate dispersion, mitigating respiratory irritants and fostering healthier living environments.

Understanding Heating Load in Hixson Homes

Building Envelope Factors

The heating load for any residence depends on how effectively walls, windows, roofs, and crawl spaces retain conditioned air. HEP technicians evaluate:

  • R-values of attic and wall insulation
  • Window glazing performance and air leakage rates
  • Door seals, weather stripping, and chimney dampers
  • Basement or crawl-space moisture control measures

Accurate load assessment leads to repairs that precisely address capacity shortfalls rather than simply masking symptoms.

Local Climate Data Considerations

Hixson averages more than 80 days each year with nighttime lows below 40 °F, and sudden cold fronts can push temperatures toward the 20s. HEP leverages:

  • Degree-day calculations unique to the Chattanooga Valley
  • Historical humidity averages that influence heat pump defrost timing
  • Wind-exposure maps identifying properties prone to rapid heat loss

HEP’s Advanced Diagnostic Instruments

Combustion Analysis Tools

Gas furnaces achieve their highest efficiency when combustion dynamics are perfectly balanced. Instruments deployed include:

  • Flue gas analyzers measuring oxygen, carbon monoxide, and stack temperature
  • Draft gauges verifying chimney or induced-draft blower performance
  • High-resolution endoscopes allowing internal heat-exchanger visual inspections

Airflow and Refrigerant Measurement Devices

Precise airflow is the backbone of comfort and efficiency. HEP technicians rely on:

  • Anemometers and flow hoods to quantify supply and return CFM
  • Static pressure probes for pinpointing duct restrictions
  • Digital refrigerant scales and micron gauges during vacuuming and charging

Static Pressure Testing and Airflow Balancing

An overlooked duct elbow or crushed flex line can add so much resistance that even a brand-new furnace will short cycle. HEP measures total external static pressure (TESP) and compares it to manufacturer limits. Services offered after testing include:

  • Removing accumulated debris in branch lines
  • Resizing or repositioning undersized return grilles
  • Installing adjustable balancing dampers to fine-tune room-to-room airflow

These steps help eliminate temperature disparities between upper and lower floors common in split-level Hixson homes.

Homeowner Maintenance Tips Between Professional Visits

  • Inspect and replace 1-inch filters monthly during heavy heating periods
  • Keep supply and return registers free of rugs, furniture, or drapery blockages
  • Clear debris and vegetation from around outdoor heat pump units
  • Listen for new noises and document when they start for easier troubleshooting
  • Vacuum floor vents to reduce dust accumulation inside ductwork

Routine homeowner vigilance complements professional service and prolongs system life.

Winterization Services Beyond the Furnace

Insulation and Weatherization Upgrades

HEP recommends air-sealing and insulation enhancements to maximize the effectiveness of mechanical repairs. Common upgrades include:

  • Sealing attic bypasses around recessed lighting and plumbing penetrations
  • Adding vapor-permeable insulation boards on kneewall assemblies
  • Installing high-performance storm doors on wind-exposed entryways

Plumbing and Crawl-Space Protection

Cold snaps can threaten vulnerable plumbing. HEP offers:

  • Pipe insulation installation to safeguard supply lines
  • Crawl-space vent closure recommendations for energy conservation
  • Sump pump testing to prevent winter water intrusion

Commitment to Environmental Stewardship

Responsible Refrigerant Practices

Refrigerant management is crucial for ozone layer protection and greenhouse gas reduction. HEP adheres to:

  • EPA Section 608 guidelines for recovery and reclamation
  • Leak-repair trigger thresholds that mandate timely corrective action
  • Proper documentation of reclaimed refrigerant quantities for audit readiness

Sustainable Disposal and Recycling

Used motors, circuit boards, and metal housings are recycled whenever feasible. Cardboard packaging from replacement parts is compacted and diverted from landfills, demonstrating a holistic approach to environmental responsibility.

Predictive Monitoring and Remote Diagnostics

Smart Sensor Integration

HEP installs optional sensor arrays that track:

  • Supply-air temperature differentials over time
  • Blower motor amperage trends indicating bearing wear
  • Static pressure variations signaling duct or filter issues

Data-Driven Maintenance Alerts

Cloud-based platforms evaluate sensor data and alert technicians when performance deviates from established baselines. Predictive maintenance prevents sudden outages and maximizes repair scheduling efficiency.

Heating Repairs for Rental Properties and Multi-Family Buildings

Coordination with Property Management

Multi-family environments require scheduling flexibility and regulatory awareness. HEP technicians:

  • Communicate repair timelines to management and tenants
  • Document unit-specific service records for compliance audits
  • Follow noise and cleanliness protocols suitable for shared hallways and common areas

Tailored Maintenance Plans for Larger Residences

Apartment complexes and townhomes benefit from portfolio-wide maintenance agreements that standardize:

  • Filter replacement schedules across multiple air handlers
  • Annual combustion safety checks in every dwelling
  • Bulk purchasing of OEM components for consistent quality

Health and Safety Considerations During Heat Repair

Carbon Monoxide Prevention

Cracked heat exchangers pose serious health hazards. HEP technicians test CO levels at supply vents and recommend replacement when readings exceed 9 ppm.

Electrical and Fire Risk Mitigation

Loose wiring, overheated contactors, and worn insulation can spark fires. Electrical inspections cover:

  • Verification of proper breaker sizing
  • Thermal imaging to detect hot spots in subpanels
  • Replacement of frayed conductors

Clean Work Practices

Technicians adhere to EPA guidelines for refrigerant handling and dispose of old components according to environmental regulations.

Choosing Replacement vs. Repair: Guidance from HEP

Cost–Benefit Analysis

When repair costs approach 30–50 % of replacement value, or when the system is older than 12–15 years, HEP may recommend upgrading. Factors influencing the decision include:

  • Frequency and severity of past breakdowns
  • Availability of replacement parts for legacy models
  • Potential energy savings from high-efficiency upgrades

Energy Efficiency Ratings

Modern furnaces rated at 95 % AFUE or heat pumps with 20+ SEER2 can slash monthly bills compared to aging 80 % AFUE units. HEP provides data-driven comparisons tailored to property size and insulation values.
