What our customers say

Over the last few years of new homeownership, we've needed up-keep attended to between basic plumbing and AC issues. Today was no exception as we had a leak occur on our AC unit with the refrigerant. Our house was suffering from the heat wave and it was taking about 6 days for HEP to reach out. To most homeowners, that was an automatic 1 star review. Not in my eyes. These technician are state of the art and masters of their class, and Patrick McGraw was no exception. His excellence in knowledge and patience to describe our issues with our AC unit was a swift reminder of why I will continue to pay HEP for any future services. I've always enjoyed their thorough explaining to make myself, as a homeowner, feel included in the why of everyday problems homeowners face. He allowed me to speak with his management team to discuss my frustrations with pricing on needing to get the leak fixed and why I feel like this wasn't something I could control, yet I was somehow responsible for the payment of the repairs. We negotiated on terms to bring the price down and ensure I wasn't left frustrated and dissatisfied with the fact that we're all humans with jobs to do and lives to live. I thank Patrick and his boss for continuing to work with me and make sure my family is safe and comfortable. To anyone wondering if HEP is a good option, you made it this far to read this, didn't you?

Sebastian and Logan were great on the installation of our new unit. It seemed it was low on Freon from the factory and they waited here until 9:30pm for a service tech to show up to add the right amount of refrigerant to make sure our units were working as they should and not leave us without AC. Bless them.

I called HEP today with an emergency leak situation. I originally asked for a plumber as I thought a water pipe had busted between our walls. Charles showed up at our home, immediately put on his shoe covers and went to work. After checking the walls and going into our attic he discovered it wasn’t a water line, but a backed up condensate line from our upstairs AC. He explained everything, showed pictures, and immediately called his HVAC co-worker to bring the equipment which would fix the clog. Patrick showed up, immediately put on his shoe covers, and within an hour everything was fixed. Both of the guys traveled 45+ minutes on a Friday night, took the time to look for, find, explain, and fix the issue so we could run our AC again and sleep soundly. I can’t say enough about both Charles and Patrick! They respected our home, our time, they worked hard and fixed our problem while giving up their Friday night and driving long distances. 100% respect for HEP and 10/10 recommendation to anyone needing plumbing, heating, cooling, and more. Thank you Charles and Patrick, and the HEP team!

HEP was able to get us booked on a Friday night for a Saturday A/C service. They placed a courtesy call Saturday morning to say the technician would be arriving slightly later than the scheduled window. We got a text message indicating the technician was on the way. The text had a link to track their travel progress. Our technician - Patrick McGraw - wasted no time getting started and was able to diagnose AND fix the problem rather quickly. Our A/C was up and running again and the charge was much lower than I anticipated. Patrick was fantastic to work with and provided top notch customer service. I have only used HEP a few times in the past but won't hesitate to use them again in the future.

Reliable Cleveland Air Conditioning and Heating Services by HEP

Cleveland’s four-season climate places unique demands on residential and commercial comfort systems. Icy Lake-Erie winds blast through Northeast Ohio in winter, while humid summer highs routinely climb past 90 °F. HEP understands these extreme swings and has built a reputation for delivering heating and air conditioning services that keep Greater Cleveland properties comfortable, safe, and energy-efficient throughout the year. By combining highly trained technicians, meticulous workmanship, and a customer-first mindset, the company addresses every HVAC requirement—from precision load calculations to post-service air-flow balancing—under one reliable roof.

The Cleveland Climate Challenge

Cleveland experiences more than 164 days per year below 45 °F and roughly 30 days above 90 °F. Rapid temperature fluctuations can cause equipment strain, elevated utility bills, and indoor comfort problems such as:

  • Frozen evaporator coils due to sudden springtime cold snaps
  • Oversized cooling systems short-cycling during transitional weather
  • High indoor humidity prompting mold growth and respiratory irritation
  • Furnace heat exchanger stress from prolonged sub-zero nights

HEP’s design philosophy treats the local climate not as an obstacle but as a blueprint for system engineering. Every recommendation—whether for an air conditioner, furnace, heat pump, or hybrid setup—is calculated to excel in Cleveland’s lake-effect environment.

Seasonal Tips for Cleveland Homeowners

Maintaining comfort does not end with professional service. HEP recommends proactive homeowner actions:

Spring and Summer

  • Clear vegetation within 24 inches around outdoor condensing units
  • Replace return-air filters at least every 60 days during peak pollen
  • Shade south-facing windows with blinds or reflective film to lower cooling load

Fall and Winter

  • Reverse ceiling fan direction to push warm air downward
  • Test carbon monoxide detectors simultaneously with smoke alarms
  • Keep furnace intake and exhaust pipes free of snow and ice accumulation

Year-Round Practices

  • Maintain indoor humidity near 40 % to minimize static and respiratory discomfort
  • Vacuum registers and grilles monthly to deter dust buildup
  • Track utility bills to spot sudden spikes that indicate system inefficiency

Importance of Proper Sizing and Load Calculation

Incorrectly sized HVAC equipment can cause short cycling, humidity problems, and premature component wear. HEP’s engineers use ACCA Manual J, S, and D procedures for every install or major replacement.

Key Factors in Load Calculation

  • Square footage and ceiling height for volumetric analysis
  • R-value of insulation in walls, floors, and attic
  • Orientation of structure relative to solar gain
  • Occupant density and plug load heat output
  • Infiltration rates determined through blower-door data

Consequences of Oversizing or Undersizing

  • Oversizing: rapid temperature swings, high humidity, wasted energy
  • Undersizing: inadequate comfort on extreme days, undue strain on compressor or heat exchanger
  • Both scenarios: elevated lifecycle costs and diminished equipment longevity

Safety and Code Compliance

HEP’s commitment to safety extends from technician protocols to end-user protection.

Technician Safety

  • Lockout-tag-out for electrical circuits
  • Gas leak detection with combustible-gas meters
