I had a roof inspection today with HEP and I can't recommend this company enough! The representative, Jason, was extremely professional and courteous. After the inspections he walked me through his findings and at NO point did I feel I was being "up sold". We've had a number of projects done to our home recently and after speaking with so many different contractors and getting various quotes on "necessary" work it was refreshing to speak with someone who wasn't trying to take advantage of me. I will definitely be using HEP for future projects and recommend them to anyone doing any work on their home.

Frank Elmore and Shane Riedel came to give me an estimate on a roof leak. They took time to answer all my questions and were thorough as they analyzed the issues I had and gave me a fair estimate. The leak was more involved than I realized so I asked for a consultant to come out and give me a quote on an entire roof to compare the cost of repair versus entire roof. I thought it would be another day but they had Travis at my house within half an hour! They even stayed and waited to make the introductions. I decided to go with entire roof but Frank and Shane were great and very helpful!

I've had HEP remodel 2 bathrooms, put a new roof on my house, and fix my HVAC. I've had nothing but positive experiences in each case. They provided friendly, punctual, and reasonably priced services. They stand behind their work in my experience too. I had an item or two that wasn't quite right during the bathroom remodels and they came back out to fix them without any fuss. They're at the top of my list when I need something done around the house that I don't want to tackle myself.

Just had Jason Shoupe come out and do and inspection on my roof to see what needed to be done in order for us to sell our home. He was the most helpful guy I believe I have had come out and inspect anything on my house, the company itself sounds great just from the things he said. He didn't talk to me like I was just some guy needing a roof repaired, he talked to me and respected myself and my family and treated all of us as a friend. I would recommend Jason and HEP to anyone you will not be disappointed at all. Thanks Jason Shoupe for all your help!!

Unrivalled Metal Roofing Expertise in Kelso by HEP

Kelso’s weather patterns, architectural styles, and community expectations create a unique environment for roofing projects. HEP understands these local nuances and delivers metal roofing solutions that are purpose-built for the town’s climate, heritage, and modern requirements. From precise material selection to meticulous installation methodologies, every stage of HEP’s service is designed to maximise durability, energy efficiency, and curb appeal.

The Local Climate Challenge

Located in the picturesque Scottish Borders, Kelso experiences a mix of heavy rainfall, occasional high winds, and fluctuating temperatures throughout the year. These conditions test the performance of any roofing system. Metal roofing, when engineered and installed correctly, stands up to this challenge admirably:

  • Exceptional resistance to wind uplift and driven rain
  • Low thermal movement thanks to proper fastening systems
  • Effective shedding of snow and debris
  • Minimal maintenance requirements over decades of service

HEP’s specialists evaluate each property’s exposure, orientation, and drainage pattern to specify a solution that performs optimally in Kelso’s ever-changing weather.

Key Benefits of HEP Metal Roofing in Kelso

Durability: HEP sources premium coated steel, aluminium, and zinc-based alloys renowned for lifespans exceeding 50 years. Protective coatings resist corrosion and ultraviolet degradation, maintaining an attractive finish over time.

Energy Efficiency: Advanced reflective pigment technology and strategic ventilation detailing work together to limit solar heat gain in summer while preserving interior warmth in winter.

Lightweight Strength: Unlike heavier traditional materials, metal roofing reduces structural loading. This is crucial for older Kelso properties that may have timber rafters or trusses requiring preservation.

Sustainability: Up to 95 % of the metal roofing material HEP installs is recyclable, contributing to reduced landfill waste and lowering the overall carbon footprint of your property.

Aesthetic Versatility: From standing-seam profiles suited to contemporary architecture in new developments on the outskirts of Kelso, to heritage-inspired tiles and shakes that complement town-centre character buildings, HEP’s range of styles accommodates every visual preference.

HEP’s Comprehensive Metal Roofing Process

Successful roofing hinges on methodical planning, meticulous workmanship, and quality materials. HEP’s process addresses each step.

1. Initial Roof Assessment & Project Planning

HEP begins every Kelso project with a detailed site inspection. This stage involves:

  • Identifying timber or masonry structural integrity issues
  • Measuring pitch, span, and perimeter dimensions with laser accuracy
  • Documenting existing moisture ingress points, particularly around dormers, chimneys, and parapet junctions
  • Photographing and mapping potential access constraints to ensure safe scaffold or lift placement

An in-depth assessment ensures that the proposed metal roofing system seamlessly integrates with the building’s structure, local planning requirements, and sustainability goals.

2. Bespoke Design & Material Specification

HEP’s design team translates survey data into a fully tailored roofing specification that aligns with Kelso’s building regulations and conservation guidelines. Key considerations include:

  • Panel profile and seam type (standing seam, snap-lock, corrugated, or shingle)
  • Substrate finishes such as zinc-aluminium-magnesium coatings for enhanced coastal resilience when properties lie near the Tweed or tributaries
  • Colour palette that suits neighbouring architecture or estate stipulations
  • Insulation values to achieve prescribed U-value targets, combining rigid board and ventilated cavity design
  • Fastener type and pattern to mitigate thermal movement and uplift forces

3. Precision Fabrication

Panels and flashings are fabricated either in-house or at trusted partner facilities equipped with CNC folding and rolling machinery. This enables:

  • Custom lengths that minimize on-site seaming and potential leak points
  • Consistent hem dimensions for crisp, uniform standing seams
  • Quality control checks that include coating thickness measurements and dimensional tolerance verifications

4. Professional Installation

Installation is carried out by HEP’s dedicated teams trained in modern European metal roofing techniques. Site practices include:

  • Scaffold erection in compliance with UK safety standards
  • Breathable underlay application for controlled vapour diffusion and secondary water resistance
  • Clip systems positioned according to calculated centres to accommodate expansion and contraction cycles
  • Mechanically seamed joints formed with electric seaming machines for watertight integrity
  • Integration of snow guards where relevant due to Kelso’s winter conditions

5. Detailing & Finishes

The final stage delivers the refined touches that distinguish a HEP roof:

  • Fabrication and installation of purpose-made curved flashings around turrets or bay windows common in Kelso’s Victorian homes
  • Chimney back gutters and side flashings featuring soldered or riveted corners for longevity
  • Colour-matched fastener heads and sealants to present a cohesive appearance
  • Thorough debris clearance from gutters and downpipes, ensuring immediate functionality

Metal Roofing Profiles Popular in Kelso

Standing Seam

Standing seam is the flagship profile for modern metal roofs in Kelso. HEP’s installations incorporate concealed fixing and continuous seams that run from eave to ridge, reducing penetration points.

Benefits include:

  • Clean, architectural lines ideal for new-builds and extensions
  • Compatibility with integrated solar photovoltaic brackets
  • Excellent water run-off characteristics on pitches as low as 3 °

Metal Shingle & Shake

For period properties in the conservation areas around Kelso Square, metal shingle or shake profiles deliver traditional aesthetics without the maintenance demands of timber.

  • Interlocking edges resist wind lift
  • Wide range of textured finishes simulates cedar or slate
  • Lightweight panels ease load on historic rafters

Corrugated Panels

Corrugated steel panels offer a cost-effective roofing solution for agricultural buildings, workshops, and converted barns in the Kelso countryside.

  • High impact resistance
  • Rapid installation thanks to wider cover widths
  • Galvanised or polyester-coated options to match budget and environment

How HEP Addresses Common Kelso Roofing Concerns

Weatherproofing Against Heavy Rainfall

Kelso receives above-average precipitation during autumn and winter. HEP counters this with:

  • Continuous eave drip flashings to direct water into wider capacity gutters
  • Factory-applied anti-capillary grooves on panel edges
  • Extra-wide valley gutters lined with fully bonded EPDM membranes

Combating Moss and Algae Growth

While metal is naturally resistant, the surrounding environment can allow organic buildup on roofs near trees or riverbanks. HEP’s solution includes:

  • Smooth coated surfaces that inhibit moss adhesion
  • Optional factory-applied biocidal layers for shaded elevations
  • Strategic placement of zinc strips near ridges to create a wash-off effect that discourages growth

Noise Management

A well-installed metal roof does not amplify rain noise. HEP specifies:

  • Acoustic separation layers beneath the metal panels
  • Deeper insulation quilts in loft spaces
  • Mechanical fastening patterns that prevent vibration

Sustainable Metal Roofing Practices by HEP in Kelso

Environmental stewardship is a core value in contemporary building projects. HEP embeds sustainability into every step:

Recycled Content

Most metal coils used by HEP contain a high percentage of recycled content without compromising structural integrity or coating performance.

Responsible Sourcing

Supply chains are audited for ethical practices, including adherence to ISO 14001 environmental management systems and responsible mining certifications.

On-Site Waste Minimisation

  • Precise digital panel cutting reduces off-cuts
  • Any waste metal is segregated and sent for recycling
  • Reusable protection sheets shield panels during installation, preventing single-use plastic waste

Energy Efficiency Enhancements

HEP often combines metal roofing projects with supplementary insulation upgrades, photovoltaic panel integration, and low-profile roof windows to maximise energy savings and enhance daylighting.

Architectural Compatibility Across Kelso

Kelso boasts an appealing mix of Georgian facades, Victorian terraces, farmsteads, and modern housing estates. HEP tailors metal roofing solutions to ensure aesthetic harmony:

Heritage Buildings

  • Low-gloss zinc or pre-patinated copper finishes complement sandstone walls
  • Subtle seam spacing echoes traditional leadwork patterns
  • Discreet ventilation elements maintain the visual integrity of listed structures

Modern Extensions

  • Bold colour choices, from crisp anthracite to soft metallic bronze, create a striking contrast against existing materials

  • Electrical cable management ensuring no chafing or hot spot formation beneath panels

Maintenance Guidance for Metal Roof Owners

While metal roofs demand minimal upkeep compared to other materials, periodic attention lengthens service life. HEP provides clear recommendations:

Annual Visual Checks

  • Inspect flashings around chimneys and roof penetrations
  • Verify gutter clearance, especially after autumn leaf fall
  • Examine coatings for scratches or abrasions

After Severe Weather

  • Look for displaced snow guards or debris accumulation
  • Confirm panel seams remain intact following high winds
  • Remove branches that could abrade protective finishes

Professional Inspections

HEP advises scheduling professional inspections every five years. Such assessments can include infrared surveys to detect moisture ingress, fastener torque checks, and seam integrity testing.

Noise Reduction Techniques Specific to Kelso’s Urban Areas

Kelso’s mixture of bustling market days and tranquil residential streets means noise considerations vary property to property. HEP customises acoustic treatments:

Solid Deck Substrates

Timber or plywood decking beneath the metal panels adds mass and decreases resonance.

Acoustic Membranes

Specialised membranes between underlay and insulation layers absorb sound waves generated by heavy rain.

Ceiling Treatments

When roof spaces are converted into living areas, HEP can install resilient bars and double plasterboard layers, further dampening external noise.

Lightning Protection Integration

Metal roofs do not increase lightning strike likelihood, but proper grounding enhances safety for occupants. HEP’s approach includes:

  • Bonding roof panels to a dedicated earth network
  • Installing air terminals at the highest points
  • Conductors routed neatly along seams, preserving aesthetics

The Role of Colour in Metal Roofing Performance

Colour choice influences both visual impact and thermal performance.
