Our original call to Hep was a year ago when our air conditioner wasn't cooling properly. It was also on a weekend when it is difficult to get a repairman to even talk with. We called Hep, and they made an appointment with us immediately. They showed up as scheduled and had our problem fixed very quickly. The most recent visit was last week when they came for a routine yearly check up. They called ahead and set up the appointment, then they showed up as scheduled. Very good service, and I would highly recommend them to others!

Joshua McCarty was the HEP tech that came to perform the annual check-up on our HVAC system. This guy is great! I learned more about our furnace and AC from him than I did from the company that installed it 6 years ago. In fact, he found a safety issue that was also a code violation. Took time to show me where it was, the problem and what could happen if left as is. I knew immediately I wanted it replaced. Rather than going to the company that installed it and having them fix their mistake, I chose to schedule Joshua to come back and fix it. I have now found my go-to HVAC pro. I have always been happy with HEP and now I feel even more comfortable This is my second year paying for the annual service contract and it is definitely worth it. Thank you HEP and especially Joshua McCarty.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Quality Expertise in Delano

Living and working in Delano means experiencing large temperature swings, dusty seasonal winds, and occasional air‐quality alerts. Those conditions place extra stress on residential and commercial HVAC systems. HEP focuses on delivering tailored heating, ventilation, and air quality solutions that help property owners meet these challenges head-on while maintaining peak comfort and system efficiency.

The Delano Climate Challenge

Central California’s San Joaquin Valley climate brings:

  • Hot, dry summers with temperatures often topping 100 °F
  • Cool, damp winters that require reliable heating
  • Dust‐laden winds created by surrounding agricultural activity
  • Periodic wildfires that send smoke and particulate matter into Delano’s atmosphere

These factors make ventilation and air quality management as important as temperature control. HEP designs every project around local environmental data so that each system operates effectively year-round.

Core Ventilation and Air Quality Services

Whole-Home Air Exchange Solutions

A tightly sealed building envelope improves energy efficiency but can trap contaminants indoors. HEP engineers balanced ventilation systems that exchange stale indoor air with filtered outdoor air. Key elements include:

  • Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRVs) for cooler months
  • Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) for hot, humid periods
  • Smart controls that adjust airflow based on temperature, humidity, and pollutant sensors

By recovering up to 80 % of thermal energy from exhausted air, these devices keep utility bills low while refreshing the indoor environment.

High-Efficiency Filtration Upgrades

Filtration remains the simplest way to capture dust, pollen, smoke, and bacteria. HEP evaluates the existing ductwork and blower capacity before recommending one of several filtration strategies:

  • MERV-13 media filters for routine particulate removal
  • Hospital-grade HEPA filtration for homes with allergy sufferers
  • Electrostatic precipitators that reduce microscopic contaminants without bulky filter changes
  • Activated carbon inserts that trap volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and odors

HEP technicians ensure that upgraded filters do not create excessive static pressure, which could shorten equipment lifespan or diminish airflow.

Advanced Air Purification Technologies

Delano’s wildfire seasons demand next-level air cleaning. HEP integrates purification components that complement filtration:

  • Ultraviolet-C germicidal lamps installed in supply plenums destroy airborne pathogens
  • Photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) cells break down VOCs at a molecular level
  • Bipolar ionization emitters help particulate matter clump together, making filtration more efficient

Each technology is sized to match system tonnage and airflow so occupants gain measurable air-quality improvements without added noise or energy draw.

Ductwork Inspections and Sealing

Leaky or poorly insulated ducts can waste up to 30 % of conditioned air. Dust infiltration through gaps further degrades indoor air quality. HEP’s duct integrity protocol includes:

  1. Pressurizing the duct network to locate hidden leaks
  2. Sealing accessible joints with mastic or UL-listed tapes
  3. Applying aerosolized sealants inside inaccessible branch runs
  4. Wrapping exposed attic or crawl-space ducts with R-8 insulation

This comprehensive approach prevents contaminant intrusion, restores airflow balance, and improves overall system efficiency.

Humidity Control Strategies

Though Delano’s climate skews dry, winter rains and tightly sealed homes can create localized humidity spikes. Conversely, hot summers desiccate the indoor environment. HEP installs equipment to maintain relative humidity between 30 % and 50 %:

  • Whole-home dehumidifiers connected to the return plenum
  • Steam or evaporative humidifiers controlled by smart thermostats
  • Combination HVAC and humidity sensors that modulate blower speeds to fine-tune moisture levels

Balanced humidity not only enhances comfort but also prevents mold growth and protects wood furnishings.

Comprehensive Heating and Cooling System Integration

Load Calculations and Equipment Sizing

Oversized systems short-cycle, while undersized units strain to meet demand. HEP conducts Manual J and Manual D calculations to determine:

  • Heat loss and gain loads per room
  • Proper equipment tonnage
  • Optimal duct diameters and register placements

Precision sizing ensures consistent temperatures and supports the correct operation of ventilation and purification add-ons.

High-Efficiency Furnace and Heat Pump Options

HEP installs furnaces with Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) ratings above 95 % and heat pumps that achieve Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratios (SEER) of 16 or higher. Matching equipment includes:

  • Variable-speed blowers that improve filtration effectiveness
  • Two-stage compressors that sustain steady indoor temperatures
  • ECM motors that reduce power draw during low-load periods

When heating and cooling components work seamlessly with ventilation systems, occupants enjoy balanced airflow, cleaner air, and lower energy bills.

Smart Thermostat and Zoning Controls

Modern controls enhance air quality by allowing granular management of temperature and ventilation schedules. HEP programs systems to:

  • Increase fresh-air exchange during cooking or cleaning periods
  • Lower blower speeds overnight for quieter operation
  • Implement demand-controlled ventilation that ramps up filtration during wildfire events

Zoning dampers further isolate areas with differing occupancy or usage patterns, preventing cross-contamination between rooms.

Indoor Air Pollutants Prevalent in Delano

Agricultural Dust and Pollen

The surrounding fields and orchards release fine particulates that enter buildings through tiny foundation cracks and open windows. Filtration upgrades combined with positive-pressure ventilation can significantly reduce indoor dust levels.

Wildfire Smoke

Seasonal wildfires in nearby foothills generate tiny particles (PM 2.5) capable of penetrating deep into lung tissue. HEP’s multi-layered filtration and purification systems dramatically lower PM 2.5 counts within minutes of installation.

Vehicle Emissions

Proximity to major highways introduces nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, and benzene. Activated carbon filtration paired with ERVs helps adsorb these gaseous pollutants.

Biological Contaminants

Mold spores, bacteria, and viruses thrive in poorly ventilated spaces. Germicidal UV-C lights and balanced humidity effectively suppress biological growth in ductwork and coils.
