FAQs

What types of solar electric systems do you install in Rockwood?

We design and install grid-tied, grid-tied with battery backup, and fully off-grid photovoltaic (PV) systems. All equipment we specify—modules, inverters, racking, batteries, and monitoring—is UL-listed and meets Ontario Electrical Code requirements. During your site visit we assess roof pitch, available space, shading, and your household’s energy profile so we can recommend the most cost-effective system size and technology for your property.

Is my Rockwood roof sunny enough for solar panels?

Most homes in Rockwood receive 4–4.5 peak sun-hours per day on average, which is excellent for PV generation. We use satellite imagery and, when needed, on-site shade analysis (Solmetric SunEye) to check orientation, tilt, and annual shading losses. Ideally, the roof faces south (±45°), has a tilt of 15°–45°, and is free of shade between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. If your roof is not optimal, we can explore east/west arrays, ground mounts, or pole-mounted systems. A detailed production estimate is provided with every proposal so you know exactly what to expect.

What permits and inspections are required, and who handles them?

In Rockwood, solar PV installations must comply with the Ontario Electrical Code and usually require an Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) notification of work and inspection. If the system is grid-tied, an LDC (Local Distribution Company) connection authorization is also required. For ground mounts over 10 m² or on heritage buildings, a municipal building permit may be necessary. Our team manages the entire permitting process, prepares single-line diagrams, files ESA applications, schedules inspections, and submits the connection request to Hydro One or your local utility, so you have zero paperwork to worry about.

How long does the solar installation process take from start to finish?

For a typical residential system up to 10 kW, the timeline is 6–10 weeks: 1. Site assessment & proposal: 1–2 weeks 2. Engineering & permitting: 2–3 weeks (dependent on ESA/municipal turnaround) 3. Equipment ordering & logistics: 1–2 weeks 4. On-site installation: 1–3 days for roof-mounted, 3–5 days for ground-mounted systems 5. ESA inspection & utility approval: 1–2 weeks Once the utility grants Permission to Operate (PTO), your system is energized and starts saving you money.

What incentives or financing options are available for Rockwood homeowners?

While the Ontario FIT program has closed, several incentives remain: • Canada Greener Homes Grant: Up to $5,000 rebate for eligible solar PV systems and up to $40,000 at 0% interest through the Greener Homes Loan. • Net Metering: Credits you for every kilowatt-hour exported to the grid at the same rate you pay for electricity, effectively reducing your bill for 20+ years. • Tax Exemptions: Solar equipment is PST-exempt and may qualify for the federal capital cost allowance (CCA) if installed on income-producing property. We can bundle these incentives with low-interest loans from local credit unions or offer in-house financing to keep your upfront costs minimal.

What maintenance and warranty support do you provide after installation?

Solar PV systems are largely maintenance-free because panels have no moving parts. We recommend: • Visual inspection and cleaning (if required) once or twice a year • Annual performance review using the included monitoring portal Panels carry 25-year performance warranties and 10–12-year product warranties; inverters are warrantied for 10–25 years depending on the model. Our workmanship warranty covers labour and roof penetrations for 10 years. If any component fails, our service team will handle the manufacturer RMA, perform the swap-out, and file paperwork with your utility. Optional preventive-maintenance packages and extended monitoring are also available.
