Can I use Petros switches in both new construction and retrofit projects?
Yes. All Petros wall switches are built on a standard 86 mm mounting grid and fit into any regular British or European 60 mm round/square back box at depths of 35 mm or more. For renovation work, the slim chassis lets the unit sit flush even in shallow, plaster-filled boxes, while for new builds you can order matching back boxes for solid or dry-wall installation.
What materials and finishes are available for the faceplates?
Faceplates come in brushed stainless steel, matte black aluminium, white polycarbonate, and premium glass. Each material is treated with a fingerprint-resistant coating and is UV stabilised so colours stay true over time. You can also order custom RAL colours or laser-etched icons for hotel or commercial projects with a minimum order of 50 pieces.
How difficult is it to install a Petros switch, and do I need special tools?
Installation is straightforward for any qualified electrician. The switch uses clearly marked push-in terminals that accept 1–2.5 mm² solid or stranded conductors. Simply strip 10 mm of insulation, push the wire into the spring clamp and it locks automatically—no screws to tighten. A reversible captive screw secures the unit to the back box, and the faceplate snaps on magnetically. The only tools required are a flat-head screwdriver to remove the old plate and wire strippers for preparation.
Are Petros switches compatible with smart-home or automation systems?
Most mechanical models are simple two-way or intermediate switches, but the range also includes Zigbee, Z-Wave and Wi-Fi variants that work with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Apple HomeKit. These smart versions maintain manual operation while providing app control, scheduling and power-consumption monitoring.
