FAQs

What types of industrial generators does Norris supply, and what power ranges are available?

Norris offers a full portfolio of prime-power and standby industrial generators, including open-skid, sound-attenuated, containerised and trailer-mounted models. Our diesel sets cover 20 kVA to 3 000 kVA, while our natural-gas line spans 50 kW to 2 500 kW. We also engineer multi-set paralleling systems that can exceed 10 MW for large-scale plants, data centres and critical-process facilities.

Which fuel options can I choose and how do I determine the best fit for my application?

We manufacture generators configured for diesel, natural gas, biogas/landfill gas and dual-fuel operation. Diesel sets are generally preferred for high-load, mission-critical backup because of their fast response and high power density. Natural-gas units are popular for continuous or prime power where a pipeline supply is available and low emissions are required. Biogas models allow you to recover energy from waste streams. Our engineers run a life-cycle-cost analysis—factoring fuel price, run hours, environmental permits and maintenance—to recommend the most economical option for each site.

How do I size a generator correctly for my facility’s electrical load?

Proper sizing starts with an accurate load profile. Norris provides an on-site or remote audit in which we measure starting currents, running currents and power factor of all connected equipment. We then apply IEEE/IEC derating factors for altitude, temperature and harmonics, and include future expansion margins. For motor-heavy loads or UPS-backed data centres, we model the transient voltage dip to ensure the alternator and engine can accept block or step loads without stalling. The result is a sizing report and single-line diagram you can submit for permitting and utility interconnection.

What maintenance schedule do Norris industrial generators require?

For standby diesel sets, we recommend a monthly 30-minute test run under load, a 250-hour (or annual) preventive service, and a 1 000-hour major service that includes coolant, oil and filter replacement, valve lash adjustment and a full electrical inspection. Natural-gas units use a 500-hour minor / 2 000-hour major interval because of cleaner combustion but higher spark-ignition wear. We provide service kits and digital logs, and our field technicians are on call 24/7 for emergency repairs. Following the OEM schedule preserves warranty and maximises runtime reliability.

Do Norris generators meet current emissions and noise regulations?

Yes. All new diesel models are supplied to U.S. EPA Tier 3 or EU Stage V standards, and we can fit retrofit SCR, DPF and oxidation catalysts for stricter local limits. Our gas engines comply with <0.5 g/bhp-hr NOx or better, and can be certified for California Air Resources Board (CARB) requirements on request. Acoustic packages down to 65 dB(A) at 7 m are standard, with super-silent 55 dB(A) enclosures available for hospitals and urban sites.

What after-sales support and spare-parts availability does Norris offer?

Norris maintains a central parts warehouse plus regional depots, stocking consumables and critical spares for at least 15 years after production. Customers receive a 24/7 technical-support hotline, remote monitoring via our GenWatch platform, and optional service level agreements that guarantee a 4-hour on-site response. We also provide operator training, emissions testing, firmware updates and load-bank rental to keep your generator compliant and ready to run.
