FAQs
Do I need a licensed electrician to install or replace an electrical outlet in Mascot?
Yes. NSW law requires that any fixed wiring work, including the installation or replacement of power points, be carried out by a licensed electrician. Using a professional ensures the work complies with the current AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules, is safely tested, and is covered by the electricianâs Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work (CCEW).
How long does it typically take to install a new power point in my home or office?
For a standard surface-mounted single or double outlet on an accessible plasterboard wall, most installations take about 30â60 minutes. Time can increase if the wall is double brick, if cabling has to be run from a distant circuit, or if extra safety devices such as RCDs (safety switches) must be fitted. Your electrician will assess the site and give you a more precise timeframe on arrival.
What types of outlets can you supply and install?
We offer a full range, including standard 10 A and 15 A outlets, USB-charging outlets, weather-proof outdoor sockets, child-safe shuttered outlets, slimline and architectural plates, and smart outlets that can be controlled via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. All products are sourced from reputable Australian brands and carry the required Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM).
My older home only has single sockets. Can you upgrade them to doubles without rewiring the entire circuit?
In many cases, yes. If the existing cabling and protective devices are in good condition and adequately rated, we can convert single outlets to doubles by enlarging the wall cut-out, fitting a double-gang bracket, and re-terminating the conductors. We will test the circuit load and earth continuity first to make sure the upgrade is safe and compliant. If the wiring is dated or damaged, we will recommend partial or full rewiring of that circuit.
How much does it cost to have an outlet installed or replaced in Mascot?
Pricing depends on access, wall construction, outlet type, and whether new cabling is required. As a guideline, replacing an existing single outlet with a modern double starts from $120 incl. GST. Installing a completely new outlet on the same wall as an existing circuit generally ranges from $165-$250. Speciality or weather-proof outlets, brick chasing, or running new circuits will add to the cost. We provide fixed, written quotes after a quick on-site inspection.
Why are safety switches (RCDs) important when adding new outlets?
RCDs monitor the current balance between active and neutral conductors and trip within milliseconds if they detect a leakage to earth, greatly reducing the risk of electric shock or fire. Current NSW regulations require that all new socket-outlet circuits be RCD-protected. When we add or upgrade outlets, we test your switchboard and, if necessary, install combination RCBOs (circuit-breaker + RCD) so the new work meets todayâs safety standards.
