FAQs
What makes your rugged reliability smoke detectors different from standard residential models?
Our detectors are engineered with industrial-grade housings, reinforced internal components, and wider operating temperature and humidity ranges (–40 °F to 158 °F / –40 °C to 70 °C, 0–95 % RH non-condensing). They resist vibration, dust, and corrosive atmospheres commonly found in manufacturing plants, warehouses, and outdoor enclosures, ensuring dependable performance where residential models would fail.
Can these smoke detectors be used in harsh or hazardous locations?
Yes. Select models are UL 268A-listed for duct applications, UL 521-listed for high-heat environments, and carry NEMA 4X or IP66 ratings for water and dust ingress protection. For classified hazardous locations we offer versions certified to UL 1203 Class I, Div 1 & 2, Groups C & D and Class II, Div 1, Groups E, F, G. Always verify the certification markings on the datasheet to match your site’s specific code requirements.
How are the detectors powered and what happens during a power outage?
Each unit operates on 24 V DC or 120/240 V AC and includes a sealed 10-year lithium backup battery that keeps sensing and signaling active for a minimum of 24 hours of standby plus 5 minutes of full-alarm horn/strobe operation, meeting NFPA 72 supervisory requirements. The detector automatically reverts to line power when restored and performs a self-diagnostic check.
What testing and maintenance do these detectors require?
Rugged models feature automatic sensor-chamber drift compensation and a removable, washable smoke chamber to reduce false alarms. NFPA 72 still mandates functional testing at installation and at least annually thereafter. You can initiate the test via the front-panel pushbutton or through a remote test station. The detectors log test results and sensor status codes, which can be downloaded for recordkeeping.
Are the detectors compatible with existing fire alarm control panels and BMS systems?
Absolutely. All models provide Form C relay outputs, 4-20 mA or Modbus RTU signaling, and polarity-insensitive two-wire initiating-device circuits for direct connection to most UL 864 fire alarm control panels. BACnet/IP and LonWorks interface modules are available for integration into building management systems, enabling central monitoring, event logging, and remote diagnostics.
What certifications and warranties back your rugged smoke detectors?
Products are third-party tested and carry UL, FM, and CE marks, plus RoHS compliance. In addition, every detector ships with a 5-year comprehensive warranty covering material defects, workmanship, and sensor accuracy. Extended service plans up to 10 years are available, including on-site calibration, firmware updates, and priority replacement service.
