FAQs
What differentiates your cutting-edge smoke detectors from conventional models?
Our latest detectors combine multi-criteria sensing (photoelectric, heat, and carbon-monoxide) with on-board microprocessors that analyse particle size, temperature rate-of-rise, and gas levels in real time. This dramatically reduces nuisance alarms while detecting real fires up to 2-3 times faster than legacy ionisation or single-sensor units.
Are the detectors compatible with smart-home and building-management systems?
Yes. Every model features built-in Wi-Fi or Zigbee radios and an open API. They integrate seamlessly with platforms such as Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and major BMS suites. Once paired, you receive instant mobile alerts, can run automations (e.g., shut down HVAC, unlock exits), and view battery and self-test status from any device.
How are the units powered and what is the expected service life?
You can choose sealed 10-year lithium battery models or 230 V mains-powered versions with rechargeable backup cells. Both types are designed for a minimum service life of 10 years, after which the entire unit should be replaced in accordance with BS 5839 and manufacturer guidelines. A built-in end-of-life indicator will notify you well in advance.
Can these detectors be interconnected, and what happens when one activates?
Absolutely. Up to 40 detectors can be hard-wired or wirelessly interconnected. When any single device senses a threat, all units sound simultaneously, ensuring occupants in every area are alerted. For larger sites, the system can also trigger building-wide voice evacuation messages and notify a monitored alarm receiving centre.
What maintenance is required to keep the detectors compliant and reliable?
The detectors perform automatic self-tests of sensor sensitivity, sounder output, and communications every 24 hours, reporting results to the app or central panel. We still recommend a quick monthly push-button or app-initiated test and an annual professional inspection, during which sensors are checked with aerosol smoke and firmware updates applied.
Which safety standards and certifications do your smoke detectors meet?
All models are third-party certified to EN 14604 for domestic smoke alarms, EN 54-5/7 for point fire detectors, and carry the CE and UKCA marks. They also comply with BS 5839-6:2019+A1:2020 installation grades. For customers outside the UK, UL 217 and NFPA-72 certified versions are available, ensuring global code compliance.
