FAQs
What types of electrical outlets can you install in my Bristol property?
We install all common UK socket styles, including standard 13-amp double and single outlets, USB-integrated sockets for device charging, weather-proof outdoor outlets, cooker and appliance spurs, shaver points, and RCD-protected (residual-current device) sockets for added safety. If you require specialist outletsâsuch as EV-charger connection points or data/ethernet portsâour qualified electricians can advise and fit those as well.
Do I really need a qualified electrician to add or replace outlets?
Yes. In England all new socket circuits and most alterations are ânotifiableâ under Part P of the Building Regulations. A registered electrician must design, install, test and certify the work to ensure it meets BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations). Using a professional protects you against fire risk, ensures your home insurance remains valid, and provides a safety certificate accepted when you sell or let the property.
How long does a typical outlet installation take?
For a straightforward like-for-like replacement of a single socket, the job usually takes 30â45 minutes. Adding a completely new outlet on an existing ring final circuit typically takes 1â2 hours, depending on wall construction and cable route. More complex tasksâsuch as running new circuits from the consumer unit or installing outdoor weatherproof socketsâmay require half a day or longer. We will give you a time estimate after a free site survey.
Will the power be switched off during the work, and for how long?
To keep everyone safe, we isolate the specific circuit we are working on. In most cases only the affected circuitânot your entire homeâwill be de-energised. For a single outlet this usually means 10â30 minutes with no power on that circuit. If we have to work in the consumer unit or extend multiple circuits, a full-house shutdown may be needed for a short period. We always schedule power interruptions at a convenient time and let you know in advance.
Are your installations fully compliant and certified?
Absolutely. We are NICEIC-approved contractors, so every outlet we install is tested for correct polarity, continuity, insulation resistance and RCD operation (where fitted). On completion you receive an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) or Minor Works Certificate plus Building Control notification (where applicable). This paperwork proves compliance with BS 7671 and Part Pâimportant for warranties, insurance and future property transactions.
How much does it cost to install additional outlets in Bristol, and what affects the price?
A like-for-like socket replacement starts from £60 + VAT. Adding a new outlet on an existing circuit typically ranges from £90 to £140 + VAT, including materials and certification. Costs rise if we must: ⢠chase cables into solid walls or lift flooring; ⢠run a new circuit from the consumer unit; ⢠fit weather-proof, metal-clad, or USB/RCD outlets; or ⢠work outside normal hours. After a free on-site assessment we provide a fixed written quote so you know the exact price before we begin.
