FAQs

Which international and Indian standards do Reliance electrical switches adhere to?

Reliance electrical switches are designed and tested in accordance with IEC 60669-1 (Switches for household and similar fixed electrical installations) as well as the Indian Standard IS 3854. Where relevant, products also follow IEC 61058 (switches for appliances), IEC/EN 60947-3 (switch disconnectors), and IS/IEC 60335-1 for safety of household appliances.

What type-testing is carried out to certify the switches?

Each switch design undergoes mechanical endurance, electrical endurance, temperature-rise, dielectric strength, glow-wire, abnormal heat & fire resistance, and ingress-protection (IP) testing. The test sequences mirror the procedures described in IEC 60669-1 Annexes B–H and IS 3854, ensuring compliance before commercial release.

What IP ratings are available and why are they important?

For indoor wall-mounted switches Reliance offers IP20 and IP30 ratings, which protect against finger contact and small solid objects. For harsher environments (industrial sheds, outdoor kiosks, washrooms) we supply IP54 and IP66 rated enclosures that additionally guard against dust and splashing or powerful water jets. Selecting the correct IP rating prevents moisture or particle ingress that could lead to arcing, corrosion, or failure.

Are Reliance switches RoHS and REACH compliant?

Yes. All components—including contact alloys, plating, and plastic housings—are verified to meet EU RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU (and its amendments) for restricted substances (Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr6+, PBB, PBDE, DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP). We also track and disclose substances of very high concern (SVHC) under REACH Regulation 1907/2006, ensuring environmentally responsible products.

How does Reliance guarantee long-term reliability of its switches?

Reliance follows ISO 9001:2015 quality management, employs statistical process control at critical assembly stages, and applies 100 % functional tests for polarity, continuity, and insulation resistance. Switches are cycled up to 40,000 operations (standard) or 100,000 operations (industrial series) in accordance with IEC 60669 to confirm mechanical life. Batch samples are periodically subjected to accelerated aging (85 °C/85 % RH) and high-temperature storage to validate design margins.

Can Reliance provide third-party certifications such as BIS, CE, or UL?

Absolutely. Mainstream domestic ranges carry the BIS mark (as per IS 3854) for the Indian market. Export variants are CE-marked to show compliance with the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2014/35/EU. For select industrial and North American models, Reliance can supply UL 20 or UL 508 certified switches on request, complete with test reports and certificates.
