HEP was prompt in getting our job estimated and starting work. We had them replace a patio roof and perform some other minor repairs on the roof. They came out on Saturday, and Jason walked through everything, explaining the rationale behind his recommendations. They were exactly in line with existing recommendations from our home inspection, so I had confidence that he was giving his honest opinion and not just trying to upsell. Due to a clerical error, they removed our entire roof by accident, but replaced it at no cost. They immediately notified me when this happened and got it rectified right away. They were honest and transparent through the whole process. After the completion of the work, I notified them of a couple of punch list items and they knocked them out quickly without me having to pester or make a scene like you would with a less reputable contractor. This is the kind of contractor that you keep around. Reliable, easy to contact, responsive, and honest. I am a very independent DIYer, but if I can't do it, my first call will definitely be to HEP. . Thanks Jason and everyone at HEP.

I recently received service from HEP for two different issues on two different days. Marcus was prompt, and expertly assessed the need for a new water pressure valve. Olin stopped by today to assess my roofing damage from our recent bad weather. His expertise was instrumental in our decision for short term repair, and a plan for future upgrading to our roof. I’m a new member to the HEP service plan, and happy to know they are only a call away should I need anything else for my home repair and maintenance issues!

We (Leroy and Helen Queen, my parents) had our leaky roof replaced by HEP at the end of July 2019. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish: from Joshua who recommended HEP for our roofing needs, to Jason our Sales Rep who measured and then inspected the finished work, to Chris in the office who helped us with the financing, to the crew of men that came out and did a marvelous job removing, installing, and then tidying up afterwards. We were mightily impressed; they worked so quickly. We highly recommend giving HEP a call for your roofing needs based on our own experience with them. They all worked really hard and quickly to get us a new roof; something we very greatly appreciate. Thanks HEP!

The Importance of Professional Roof Replacement in Dayton, Ohio

Dayton’s seasonal extremes—humid summers, heavy spring rain, sub-zero winters, and the occasional hailstorm—take a relentless toll on residential and commercial roofing systems. Over time, shingles curl, flashing loosens, membrane seams separate, and decking deteriorates. When repairs can no longer guarantee lasting protection, a complete roof replacement becomes the safest, most cost-effective, and structurally sound option. HEP specializes in comprehensive roof replacement services designed to restore the integrity of homes and businesses across Dayton while enhancing curb appeal, energy efficiency, and long-term property value.

Why Timely Roof Replacement Matters

When a roof nears the end of its service life, delaying replacement exposes the interior to a chain reaction of damage:

  • Compromised shingles allow wind-driven rain to penetrate the underlayment, leading to saturated insulation and warped decking.
  • Moisture trapped in attics fosters mold, mildew, and wood rot, undermining structural stability.
  • Repeated freeze-thaw cycles widen existing cracks and gaps, accelerating deterioration.
  • Higher indoor humidity forces HVAC systems to work harder, driving up energy consumption.
  • Leaks can short-circuit electrical wiring, threatening fire hazards.

Proactive roof replacement by HEP eliminates these risks, ensuring Dayton property owners maintain a safe, dry environment while preserving the long-term value of their investment.

HEP’s Comprehensive Roof Replacement Process

HEP has refined a meticulous, step-by-step roof replacement workflow to deliver predictable, high-quality results on every project, regardless of roof type, pitch, or scale.

1. Detailed Roof Assessment

HEP begins each project with a thorough inspection that evaluates:

  • Age and material of existing roofing system
  • Shingle condition, granular loss, and uplift resistance
  • Flashing placement around chimneys, skylights, and vents
  • Gutter integrity and water drainage patterns
  • Attic ventilation efficiency and insulation depth
  • Signs of hidden damage such as soft decking, sagging ridges, or mold growth

This data-driven assessment enables HEP to formulate a tailored replacement plan that addresses current issues while preventing future failures.

2. Material Selection Tailored to Dayton’s Climate

HEP sources premium roofing materials engineered to withstand Ohio’s variable weather:

  • Architectural asphalt shingles with high wind resistance and algae protection
  • Impact-rated shingles designed to deflect hail and debris
  • Synthetic underlayments that repel moisture while allowing vapor escape
  • Ice and water shield membranes for eaves, valleys, and penetrations
  • Energy-efficient ridge vents and intake vents to balance attic airflow

By pairing advanced materials with Dayton-specific installation practices, HEP ensures each new roof is equipped to perform reliably for decades.

3. Precision Removal of Existing Roofing

Safe, tidy tear-off procedures protect landscaping, siding, and walkways. HEP crews:

  • Cover shrubbery and exterior walls with protective sheeting
  • Strip existing shingles and underlayment down to the decking
  • Remove corroded nails and damaged flashing
  • Evaluate decking integrity, replacing compromised sections with code-approved sheathing

Thorough removal prevents lingering moisture or structural weaknesses from compromising the new system.

4. Decking Reinforcement and Moisture Barrier Installation

Following decking inspection, HEP:

  • Installs fresh sheathing where necessary for a uniform base
  • Applies full-coverage synthetic underlayment for superior water resistance
  • Adds ice and water shield membranes along eaves, valleys, and around all roof penetrations, forming a secondary waterproof layer that resists wind-driven rain and ice dams

5. Expert Shingle Application

Proper shingle alignment and fastening are essential for longevity. HEP’s certified installers:

  • Establish straight reference lines for consistent course placement
  • Use manufacturer-specified nail patterns and depths to maximize wind uplift resistance
  • Integrate starter strips and drip edges to channel water into gutters
  • Stagger shingle joints to minimize leak potential

Attention to detail at every intersection ensures a seamless, watertight surface.

6. Precision Flashing and Ventilation Upgrades

Effective flashings and ventilation optimize roof performance:

  • Custom-bent aluminum or galvanized steel flashing secures transitions at chimneys, walls, skylights, and vents.
  • Continuous ridge vents, balanced by soffit or edge vents, expel hot, moist attic air, preserving shingle life and reducing energy load.
  • Pipe boots, valley metal, and step flashing are installed with manufacturer-recommended sealants for extended durability.

7. Site Clean-Up and Final Inspection

Before final sign-off, HEP:

  • Uses magnetic rollers to collect stray nails
  • Removes all debris and protective coverings
  • Conducts a multi-point quality inspection verifying proper installation, ventilation balance, and aesthetic uniformity
  • Provides the property owner with a written workmanship guarantee and manufacturer warranty documentation

The result is a pristine job site and a roof system ready to perform from day one.

Roofing Systems Serviced by HEP in Dayton

HEP’s roof replacement expertise spans a wide array of residential and commercial roofing systems.

Asphalt Shingle Roofs

A staple in Dayton neighborhoods, asphalt shingles combine affordability, design versatility, and reliable weather protection.

  • Architectural shingles deliver a dimensional appearance and enhanced wind resistance.
  • Designer series shingles mimic slate or cedar shake for upscale curb appeal.
  • Cool-roof granules reflect solar heat, contributing to lower attic temperatures.

Metal Panel and Standing Seam

Metal roofs offer superior longevity and minimal maintenance:

  • Standing seam panels feature concealed fasteners, reducing leak risk.
  • Galvalume and galvanized steel options resist corrosion in Ohio’s mixed climate.
  • Reflective coatings can reduce cooling costs while providing modern aesthetics.

Modified Bitumen and TPO for Low-Slope

Dayton’s commercial and industrial facilities often rely on low-slope systems:

  • Modified bitumen, reinforced with polyester or fiberglass, withstands foot traffic and ponding water.
  • TPO single-ply membranes offer chemical resistance and energy-saving reflectivity.
  • HEP integrates tapered insulation packages to facilitate positive drainage and eliminate water pooling.

Specialty Roofing

HEP also manages slate, cedar shake, and synthetic composite roof replacement projects, providing tailored solutions for historic homes and high-end properties throughout Dayton.

Dayton-Specific Roofing Challenges Addressed by HEP

Freeze-Thaw Cycling

Sub-freezing temperatures cause trapped water to expand, loosening shingle adhesion and fracturing membranes. HEP combats this with:

  • Proper attic insulation and ventilation to maintain balanced deck temperatures
  • Ice and water shield installation to prevent ice dam infiltration

Wind Uplift

Thunderstorms sweeping across the Miami Valley can generate damaging gusts. HEP counters wind uplift with:

  • Enhanced nailing patterns and six-nail fastening on perimeter courses
  • High-wind shingles tested to ASTM and UL standards

Hail Impact

Seasonal hail can bruise shingles, creating hidden fracture points. HEP recommends:

  • Impact-resistant Class 4 shingles capable of withstanding hailstone strikes
  • Periodic roof evaluations to detect post-storm damage early

Humidity and Algae Growth

Ohio’s humidity fosters algae streaks that discolor shingles. HEP employs:

  • Copper-infused granules that inhibit algae colonization
  • Proper soffit ventilation combined with ridge vent systems for moisture management

Long-Term Benefits of Choosing HEP for Roof Replacement

Elevated Property Value

A freshly installed roof is a top selling point in Dayton’s real estate market. Potential buyers view a professionally replaced roof as an indicator of overall home maintenance, often translating into higher offers and faster sales.

Energy Efficiency Improvements

  • Reflective shingle granules reduce solar heat gain.
  • Balanced attic ventilation diminishes reliance on air conditioning.
  • Replacement of deteriorated insulation during roof work further lowers utility costs.

Enhanced Curb Appeal

New roofing instantly revitalizes the appearance of any property:

  • Color-blended shingle options complement siding, brick, or stone exteriors.
  • Sleek metal panels yield a contemporary, architectural aesthetic.
  • Consistent ridge lines and uniform shingle layout project meticulous craftsmanship.

Strengthened Weather Protection

HEP’s attention to flashing, underlayment, and ventilation ensures each roof is built to withstand Dayton’s diverse weather patterns for decades.
