FAQs

What type of electrical outlets are commonly used in Cleveland homes?

In Cleveland homes, the most common types of electrical outlets are the standard 120-volt outlets (also known as Type A and Type B outlets). These are suitable for everyday appliances and devices. Additionally, Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlets are required in areas where water is present, such as kitchens and bathrooms, to prevent electrical shock.

How can I determine if my electrical outlet needs to be replaced?

You might need to replace your electrical outlet if you notice any of the following signs: the outlet feels warm to the touch, you see sparks when plugging or unplugging devices, plugs fit loosely and easily fall out, you notice burn marks around the outlet, or it simply stops working. It is advisable to consult a licensed electrician if you experience any of these issues.

What is the purpose of a GFCI outlet and where should it be installed?

A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlet is designed to protect against electrical shock by breaking the circuit if an imbalance is detected between the hot and neutral lines. This is particularly important in damp or wet environments. In Cleveland, the National Electrical Code (NEC) mandates GFCI outlets be installed in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, basements, and outdoor areas.

How often should electrical outlets be inspected and tested?

It is recommended to have your electrical outlets inspected and tested by a licensed electrician at least once every 5-10 years. However, in older homes or if you experience frequent electrical issues, more frequent inspections may be necessary. Additionally, outlets in high-use areas should be checked more regularly to ensure they remain safe and functional.

Can I install a new electrical outlet myself, or should I hire a professional?

While it is technically possible for homeowners to install a new electrical outlet themselves, it is not generally recommended unless you have a strong understanding of electrical systems and local codes. Installing an outlet incorrectly can result in serious hazards, including electrical fires and shock. Hiring a licensed electrician ensures the job is done safely and in compliance with local regulations.

What are the advantages of upgrading to modern electrical outlets?

Upgrading to modern electrical outlets provides several benefits: improved safety features such as GFCI protection and tamper-resistant designs, increased functionality like USB ports for charging devices, better compatibility with modern electronics, and enhanced energy efficiency. Upgrading outlets can also potentially increase the value of your home and ensure compliance with current electrical codes.

Josh Butler saved the day at my mom's home. Our house had issues with only the basement electric not working. We originally thought that it was a fuse but didn't have any replacements available. It did take them about 24 hours to get to my mom's house and address the call, which was my only complaint. The only reason for that is they only have the phone lines open 24/7, the electricians can only be out anywhere from 8AM-12AM M-F I believe. As for the job he was only here for about an hour, told us what the issues were and gave a solution to our problem. Since we were tight on money he was able to really listen to all of our concerns and fix our bad outlets. I couldn't ask for a better person to come out and help us. Thanks again Josh 😁

Just used HEP again for some electrical issues....Ric was great, informative and had a resolution to our issues quickly!!! Thanks Ric and HEP for another outstanding job...... I have used HEP pretty frequently this year for various jobs that I needed help with in a home I was selling and now in a new home recently purchased. HEP was on the way when I needed a repair for a leaky toilet, installation of a new range hood, installation of 2 garbage disposals for 2 kitchens, electrical outlets installed for the 2 garbage disposals, conversion of a fuse box to a circuit breaker and next week they will be coming to repair/replace my A/C unit. Why do I keep coming back to them? No doubt because HEP is on the way anytime I need them. Their techs are knowledgeable and just get the job done. I most definitely will keep using them in the future!
